관계사의 계속적 용법

관계사 앞에 콤마가 있는 경우, 앞의 말을 보충해서 설명한다. 문맥에 맞게 접속사를 넣어 해석하며, 보통 ‘그런데 ～’ 정도로 해석해도 무방하다.

eg. I bowed to the man, whom I knew well.

           나는 그 남자에게 머리를 인사했는데, (그런데) 그건 내가 그 사람을 잘 알기 때문이다.

      He wanted to come, which was impossible.

           그는 오고 싶어 했지만, (그런데) 그건 불가능했다.

1. We went to the museum, where I lost my laptop.

2. He employed five workers, all of whom are smart.

3. She acquired a familiarity with poor Irish farmers, all of whom were to be of use in her novels.

4. Egyptian civilization was built on the banks of the Nile River, which flooded each year.
