Guo Minghao estimates that the price of optical fingerprints provided by Aegis to Samsung's new A series models in the first half of next year is 2.5-3.5 US dollars, which is significantly lower than the US$5–6 of the top and the market consensus of US$4–6.
Guo Minghao attributed the reason to improving the yield of optical screen fingerprint recognition. The reason for being able to improve the yield of the product is to replace the Himax sensor with a self-designed graphic sensor, which is advantageous for vertical integration and saves development time and cost.
Secondly, replacing the Micro-len s/optical MEMS design with a lens is beneficial to the improvement of production yield and cost. Finally, the lens is upgraded from 2P to 3P, and the aperture is improved from F1.4 to F1.2, which improves the contrast and improves the recognition rate.

Guo Mingxi believes that the price war of Aegis has caused the following major impacts on the industry:
(1) adversely affecting the optical fingerprint gross margin of Huiding and Aegis;
(2) 2019 optical fingerprint offer will be reduced to 2– $2.50 or less (slightly higher than capacitive fingerprints), which is about 70% or more compared with the current $6-8;
(3) If a third optical fingerprint supplier enters in the next 2 years, due to lack of Goods record and scale advantage, if the price is not less than 2 - 2.5 US dollars, it will not be easy to obtain orders, the price competition will be more intense;
(4) Optical fingerprint module manufacturers who want to develop and lead the one-stop solution (Turnkey solution) (such as: Oufei Technology, Xinli, etc.), the future offer will be less than 2 US dollars.

Fingerprint sensor supplier Egis Technology (Egistec) has reportedly offered "extremely low" quotes to vie for orders from Samsung Electronics for the smartphone vendor's new smartphones slated for launch in 2019, promising to trigger a price war in market next year, according to a media report from Taiwan.
The report from TechNews quoted Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities as saying that Egistec has offered as low as US$2.50-3.50 per unit for optical fingerprint sensors for use in the upcoming Galaxy A series smartphones slated for launch in the first half of 2019. The price is much lower than the US$5-6 offered by fellow company Goodix Technology and also the market's average of US$6-8, the report indicated.
Egistec's low-price strategy will trigger a price war in the optical fingerprint sensor segment next year with related suppliers set to see their gross margins come under downward pressure, the report continued.
Egistec has been encountering growing competition from Goodix, which has cut into the supply chain of Samsung, Egistec's major smartphone client, since 2018, according to previous reports. Samsung uses Qualcomm's in-display fingerprint sensor solution for its high-end smartphones. For its mid-range and entry-level models, Samsung has both Egistec and Goodix provide optical fingerprint sensors.
