What an incredible night! We went into the election feeling optimistic, but our expectations were more than exceeded when it was reported that -- even with seven candidates in the race -- the voters supported our campaign with over 49 percent of the vote! We should all be proud that the voters shared our view that the time has come for a new day at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Thank you all so very much, from the bottom of my heart, for your support over these past few months. We could not have come this far without your help. This election is about a simple choice: do we, as citizens of Los Angeles County, want a troubled Sheriff's Department -- plagued by allegations of abuse, corruption and mismanagement, and closed off to the public -- or do we want to chart a new course? The voters in our community have spoken and their desire for change is clear. The time has come to restore and rebuild the community’s relationships with our Sheriff’s Department and for new leadership to bring pride back to this great institution. It's been a long four months and so many of you have worked incredibly hard. Let's take a few days to rest and regroup as the dust settles, but then let’s continue our work and redouble our efforts to get our message out to voters for the general election. Thank you, once again, Jim

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is at a crossroads. Poor leadership, mismanagement and scandal have sullied its reputation and fractured its relationship with the community. on November 4th, we have the opportunity to vote for a Sheriff who has the experience, integrity and character to move the department away from the problems of its recent past and restore public trust in the organization. That person is Jim McDonnell.
Chief McDonnell has the experience necessary to lead the LASD forward. When the Rampart Scandal broke in the LAPD, Chief McDonnell was asked to be a key part of the leadership team that reformed the Los Angeles Police Department. It was a role that tested leadership and it was a role that required tremendous character and integrity. Chief McDonnell rose to the occasion and helped create the community-based policing model that has since become a blueprint for the nation.
When Long Beach needed to have a top quality leader for its law enforcement agency, it chose Jim McDonnell because of his experience, character, integrity and reputation.
And when the Sheriff’s Department faced deeply troubling allegations of violence and abuse within the jail system, Chief McDonnell was chosen by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to serve on the Citizens’ Commission on Jail Violence. That panel produced a detailed blueprint that addresses not simply our County’s troubled jail system, but also problems of lax accountability, failed leadership and a troubling culture that have existed for too long in our Sheriff’s Department.
Time and time again, Jim McDonnell has stood up for the community, justice and public safety, and I know he will do that again that when he is the Sheriff of Los Angeles County.
I ask you to join me in voting for Jim McDonnell for Sheriff so we can bring about a new, brighter day at the LASD.
Many thanks, Mike Feuer Los Angeles City Attorney PS: You can watch my video message here.
Election Day is almost here! In six days, voters will be going to the polls to vote for our next LA County Sheriff. Never has an election mattered more in charting the future of the LASD.
We appreciate all you’ve done in so many ways to help spread the word about Jim McDonnell’s vision for the LASD and the importance of voting in this election. Many supporters have asked how they can help ensure Jim McDonnell is our next Sheriff.
Here are a few things you can do to help make sure that the word gets out and we can all celebrate a victory – and a new day at LASD -- on November 4th.
SEND AN EMAIL TO YOUR FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS AND CO-WORKERS ASKING THEM TO VOTE FOR JIM McDONNELL FOR SHERIFF
Nothing beats hearing from someone that you know and trust. Can you take a moment to send an email to your contacts asking them to vote for Jim McDonnell? You should know that few things matter more than direct word of mouth contact with friends urging them to turn out and vote. Here’s a draft you can use (or amend as needed!) to get the word out.
This November 4th, everyone who lives in LA County, has the chance to vote for LA County Sheriff. No matter what city you live in, we ALL have the chance to bring about a new day at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). The LASD has been plagued by poor leadership, a culture of excessive force, and scandal over the past few years — it’s time to bring in an outsider with experience, integrity and vision to get the department back on track.
Chief Jim McDonnell served for 29 years at the LAPD, rising to second in command (under Chief Bill Bratton). He guided LAPD through a process of reform and helped create the community-based policing model that has become a blueprint for law enforcement across the nation. He was then selected to serve as Chief of Police at the Long Beach PD, where he has led that department with distinction for almost 5 years.
Chief McDonnell believes in increased transparency at the LASD, smarter prevention-oriented policing and diversion from the jails for those suffering from mental illness. He will build stronger ties with the community and help restore trust in the Department as we work together to improve public safety. He has the support of the LA County Police Chiefs, all five members of the Board of Supervisors, DA Jackie Lacey and LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and every newspaper that has endorsed in this race, including the LA Times, LA Daily News and La Opinion.
