Have a Blessed Thanksgiving

As we all gather with our families on Thursday for Thanksgiving, let us give thanks for the abundant blessings and the mighty works of God manifested in all of our personal lives, our Commonwealth and our great nation. Despite the outward circumstances, we know that God is at work across our land and we are in no way discouraged or defeated.

Between the time of Columbus' discovery in 1492 to the year 1620, several voyages were made to the Americas for the purposes of exploration, commerce, and settlement. The Spanish were busy building an empire in Mexico and southward, while the French settlers were unsuccessful in their efforts in North America. The English colony of Roanoke was lost, while the later effort in Jamestown was a failure. Attempts to establish a permanent settlement failed time after time until, in the Providence of God, the Pilgrims established the first continuous colony in America.

J.I. Packer writes of the Pilgrims, "Spiritual warfare made the Puritans what they were. They accepted conflict as their calling, seeing themselves as their Lord's soldier-pilgrims...they were great souls serving a great God."

We must never forget these giants of the Christian faith or their role in the founding of America. May their example of sacrifice, self-denial, and spiritual maturity inspire us to the same.

Radical gays pushing "bathroom bill" on Black Friday

The radical anti-family special interest groups are activating their troops in support of the "bathroom bill" and are hoping to use the annual Black Friday shopping day to gain support for this flawed and dangerous legislation. This Friday, Nov. 27^th, under the guise of "Transgender Advocacy Network," MassEquality is asking their supporters to collect postcards in support of "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes," the official name of the bathroom bill. They plan to hand deliver these cards to members of the Judiciary Committee.

Here is their call to action:

"Wherever you are, whoever you are, you can take action in your community on Friday, November 7th. The busiest shopping day of the year, also known as Black Friday, will be an opportune moment to be visible outside of shopping malls in your community to gather signatures in support of transgender equality."

We want to make sure you know about these efforts, and if you encounter any of these postcard gatherers, please let us know where and when you saw them by sending an email toinfo@mafamily.org. Furthermore, MFI and the Coalition for Marriage and Family are gearing up for another letter drive in churches around the state beginning right after the new year. Please use the next month to get ready to host a letter drive at your church.

First, let us know that you are willing to help by emailing info@mafamily.org. Second, get permission from your pastor to host the letter drive. Finally, recruit some fellow parishioners to help the day of the drive. We will provide you with the letters to have signed.

Thanks for your help with this important effort to stop this flawed and dangerous bill.

ADF: Chelmsford school bans "Christmasy" items

Alliance Defense Fund Senior Counsel Jordan Lorence, along with two parents, spoke at a school committee meeting last night in Chelmsford, objecting to a ban on donations of Christmas items for a gift sale. Byam Elementary School’s policy for its “Gift Room 2009” sale bans donations of candy canes, stockings, and Santas, as well as Christmas, Hanukkah, and other “religious items.”

“Ignoring the 95 percent of Americans who celebrate Christmas is not tolerance. It’s also not necessary because the idea that gifts related to Christmas would be unconstitutional at this sale is patently false,” said Lorence. “There is no justifiable legal reason to exclude Christmas, Hanukkah, and other ‘religious items’ from this event. The urban legend that Christmas poses a constitutional problem has come about because of the larger war waged by the secular Left to erase any trace of the religious traditions and beliefs that are part of the history and cultural fabric of our nation.”

For more than a decade, Byam Elementary School has opened its “Gift Room” fundraiser as a way for parents to donate and students to purchase gifts. On Nov. 12, Kathryn McMillan and Kathleen Cullen, who are both mothers of students attending Byam, met with the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization, asking them to reconsider the restrictive policy, but school officials refused the request. McMillan claims that red and green tissue wrapping paper was also banned from the event, to be held Dec. 1-4, because it looks too “Christmasy.”

The superintendent over Byam, Donald Yeoman, stated that the school’s PTO has “taken a conservative approach to separation of church and state..., and I commend them.”

“That understanding of the First Amendment is 100 percent false,” Lorence explained. “The Constitution does not prohibit Santa Claus and candy canes from being sold at a school gift sale, nor does it prohibit the donation of religious items to such an event. We would gladly defend the school free of charge if it agreed to accept such items and was later sued.”

Tisei chosen by Charlie Baker as running mate

Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker announced on Monday his choice of state Sen. Richard Tisei (R-Wakefield) as his running mate for next year's elections. Though candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run separately on the primary ballot, Republican candidates have made it a tradition to form tickets prior to the primary.

Sen. Tisei, who came out as a homosexual in the Boston Globe last week, has been a vocal proponent of same-sex "marriage," while consistently voting against the Marriage Amendment, denying the people the right to vote on the definition of marriage. He is also a co-sponsor of the flawed and dangerous "bathroom bill" currently before the Judiciary Committee. Beyond those issues, Sen. Tisei has is also a consistent supporter of abortion, co-sponsoring the expanded buffer zone law around clinics. He has compiled a 100% rating from both Planned Parenthood and NARAL/Pro-Choice of Massachusetts.

Charlie Baker is joined by Christy Mihos in the Republican primary, while Gov. Deval Patrick is running unopposed in the Democratic Party primary. State Treasurer Tim Cahill is running as an Independent candidate for governor. Aside from sitting Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray, Richard Tisei is the only announced candidate for the lieutenant governor position.

Kennedy, Bishop Tobin spar over abortion and Communion

Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-Rhode Island) and Bishop Thomas Tobin have been having a public feud in recent weeks stemming from Kennedy's support of abortion, while presenting himself as a practicing Roman Catholic. The latest salvo came as the result of a 2007 private letter from Bishop Tobin to Rep. Kennedy "requesting" he refrain from taking Communion because of his stance on abortion.

On Oct. 21, during an interview with the Cybercast News Service, Rep. Kennedy criticized the Catholic Church's position on the health care bills, calling it "an absolute red herring" that fans "the flames of dissent and discord." This prompted Bishop Tobin to call Kennedy's remarks "irresponsible and ignorant of the facts" and to demand an apology.

Bishop Tobin then called on Kennedy to repent and says his position on abortion is "unacceptable to the Church and scandalous to many of our members." This prompted an indefinite postponing of a meeting between the two. Last Friday Kennedy accused Bishop Tobin of telling him not to receive Communion and instructing diocesan priests to deny him the sacrament. On Sunday, Bishop Tobin said that in the 2007 letter he asked Kennedy to refrain from Communion, not ordering him to do so, and denying that he ever instructed priests on the matter.

Congressman Kennedy is the youngest son of the late U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy.

Foxwoods fails to make full debt payment

Connecticut's Foxwoods Resort Casino, one of the world's largest, has failed to make a full payment on its debt, leading to a default and another credit-rating downgrade as casinos around the country struggle. According to the Associated Press, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said it has paid $14.2 million of the $21.25 million semi-annual interest payment that was due Monday on $500 million in debt notes, and would be unable to pay the balance within a 30-day period, resulting in a default. Standard & Poor’s lowered its credit rating to D, its lowest rating. Lenders will be more hesitant to make loans to Foxwoods according to S&P's managing director.

Foxwoods is one of several casinos across the country defaulting on its debt, with some commercial casinos not owned by American Indian tribes going into bankruptcy. Both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun said this week that slot machine revenue dropped about 4 percent in October compared with the same month in 2008.

Health care debate moves to the Senate

On Saturday evening, the U.S. Senate voted to proceed on Senator Reid's version of the government takeover of health care. Among the several objectionable items included in this bill are the public option, employer and individual mandates, and government funding for elective abortion. This last item is the most onerous and morally objectionable. The bill also provides subsidies for private plans that cover elective abortion.

Take a moment today to call Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Paul Kirk. Ask them to oppose any health care bill that includes coverage for abortion. Ask them to support the bipartisan Stupak-Pitts amendment language that was passed by the House of Representatives. This language would maintain the status quo, on the books for more than 30 years and supported by 61% of Americans, forbidding taxpayer funding of abortion.

Radicals turning up heat on "bathroom bill"

Though the Legislature is closing its formal session this evening, the radical gay activists behind the "bathroom bill" are launching a last minute effort to pressure the Judiciary Committee to release the bill into the full House. After their huge loss on the ballot in Maine, they are looking for a victory to help them save face, and they are targeting Massachusetts.

Our opponents are trying to use last minute pressure to get this flawed bill out of committee, and we must do all we can to make sure that they fail. Lend a hand to Revere group responsible for ballot initiative

Though the ballot initiative in Revere fell short of its goal on Election Day, it was successful in revealing much of the inner workings of the Revere High School health center, including the availability of contraception. In running such a professional, grassroots campaign, there were costs incurred. Some of the bills are now coming due, and the campaign is looking for help.

The "Our Teens, Our Schools" committee was able to alert voters about the importance of community involvement and the ramifications of the policy that the school committee passed thanks to other donors who stepped up in the final weeks of the campaign. However, there are a few final bills from the 72-hour get-out-the-vote campaign that need to be paid.

The parents and concerned citizens involved in the ballot campaign have pledged to continue their efforts. They are already working with like-minded parents in Gloucester and Salem to coordinate their efforts and share ideas. The election might have ended, but the work goes on.

Please consider a donation to this completely grassroots campaign that put a spotlight on questionable decisions by the school committee, and gave parents critical information about what was being done in their child's school. The following letter appeared in the Boston Sunday Globe:

We need to protect students’ rights to express their religion

November 15, 2009

RE “BILL stirs debate on religion, school’’(Metro, Nov. 8): The Student Religious Freedom Bill, cosponsored by 16 legislators from across the political spectrum, simply clarifies rights that students already have under the Constitution. However, those rights are repeatedly violated across the country because of widespread misinformation spread by anti-religious groups.

The phrase “separation of church and state’’ is not in the Constitution, but “freedom of religion’’ and “freedom of speech’’ certainly are, to prevent the government from interfering with those first freedoms, even in public schools. Courts across the nation have repeatedly upheld these rights, and students should not have to go to court to affirm these rights.

The bill does not mandate time for students to share their religion. It simply prohibits discrimination against a student if the student expresses a religious view.

Such a right is the very heart of our Constitution.

The bill’s opponents are good examples of why students and their freedoms need to be protected.

Mineau: Let voters decide gay marriage

Hot off the victory for traditional marriage in Maine, this paper's editors opined that if the definition of marriage were to come to a vote in Massachusetts, "we're certain an effort to repeal (same sex marriage) would fail." That's a stunning claim, given that citizens in 31 out of 31 states have voted it down. Even in liberal California.

The voters of Maine also sent a message to the activist group that listed petition signers names online, first here in Massachusetts then in California and Maine, to threaten and harass citizens into voting against their will for fear of crossing a "politically-correct" line. Maine voters said enough is enough. We're proud they stood up for their values, voted their conscience and took back their government.

It's time Massachusetts had the same opportunity.

Sexually transmitted infections on the rise

The following is from Focus on the Family's Citizen Link:

Sexually transmitted infections continue to rise, with the number of chlamydia cases setting another record in 2008, government officials said Monday.

There were 1.2 million new cases of chlamydia last year, The Associated Press reported, up from 1.1 million cases in 2007. Syphilis also has been increasing, with 13,500 cases of the most contagious form reported in 2008.

Dr. Miriam Grossman, a child and adolescent psychiatrist and author, noted the diseases are spreading quickly among teenagers.

"If you look closely at what young people are being taught about sexuality," she said, "you will discover that it is being assumed that they will have sex at an early age and that they will have multiple partners."

There are an estimated 19 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections annually. Experts say the most common is human papillomavirus (HPV).

Governor Patrick failed to renew the federal money that went towards abstinence education in Massachusetts. Abstinence is the only fail-safe way to not only avoid sexually-transmitted diseases, but to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Despite Gov. Patrick's shameful record, MFI continues to partner with A Woman's Concern in the Healthy Futures abstinence program being used in a number of public schools.

MFI is also working with friendly legislators to pass an "opt in" bill for sex education in schools, and vigorously opposing legislation mandating Planned Parenthood's curriculum in the classroom.

Move of the Holy Spirit at IHOPU

Student Awakening

On November 11, during a 9:00am class of first-year students, led by Allen Hood and Wes Hall at International House of Prayer University (IHOPU), the Spirit moved in their midst with physical healings, deliverance, and a spirit of joy. That class, on November 11, continued for more than 15 hours. The word spread quickly, and nearly 2,000 people spontaneously gathered in the auditorium from all over the Kansas City area, as deliverance and physical healings increased. The meeting continued well past midnight. Recognizing that the Spirit was moving, the leadership of IHOPU canceled all classes for the next few days so that we could gather to receive all that the Spirit wanted to do.

We recognize that the Holy Spirit is awakening our students and many others. In each of these meetings, many people are being set free from addictions, shame, depression, demonic activity, and every sort of emotional pain. We are also witnessing an increase of physical healings, as God is touching and restoring bodies inside the building, as well as healing people watching via the webstream. Moreover, we greatly rejoice as we are seeing lost souls being added to the kingdom of God during these meetings. We are receiving many testimonies and reports that this move of the Spirit is spreading to other churches and prayer rooms that are joining with us each night via the webstream.

It all began on November 4, on the last day of the monthly Global Bridegroom Fast at the International House of Prayer of Kansas City (IHOP–KC). A move of the Holy Spirit began to stir during the student chapel at IHOPU, as students testified about receiving deliverance from self-hatred, shame, and depression. Students began to experience supernatural joy at the revelation of God's love for them. A powerful spirit of joy rested on many the next day at the IHOPU student-led 6:00am prayer meeting, and the Spirit continued to move throughout the week in our classes and during the faculty meetings.

What started during our IHOPU student chapel on November 4 is continuing today. Visitors are coming in from many places, with some driving over 1,000 miles overnight to participate in these meetings. Consequently, on November 12, we moved the Prayer Room to our Forerunner School of Ministry sanctuary from 6:00pm to midnight each night, to accommodate more people. We will continue these nightly meetings as the Holy Spirit leads us. We earnestly pray that this awakening will continue, as our nation is in desperate need of another great awakening in this hour.

Throughout history, college and university campuses in our nation have been an epicenter and a catalyst for spiritual awakening. Since the 1700s, our nation has witnessed multiple moves of the Holy Spirit that have touched and awakened students on college campuses, including Princeton University, Yale University, Asbury College, Wheaton College, and more than a dozen other college campuses. These spiritual awakenings often progressed beyond the campuses and resulted in a great number of souls being added to the kingdom of God. History also attests to a strong correlation between spiritual awakening and missionary movements. We pray that this spiritual awakening that is touching IHOPU and the rest of our IHOP–KC Missions Base will break out all over our nation in different cities.

In the dorm tonight at Wheaton College, we were watching the webstream the heat of the love of God filled the room. Prayer like never before releasing His Spirit of intercession upon us. His kindness led to repentance to experience breakthrough that has never occurred before! First time ever being thrown by the Holy Spirit!

Holy Spirit move at Asbury College:
A group of us at Asbury met to watch the live webstream. Over 30 students were present. God poured out His Spirit in such amazing ways. The Spirit filled people on campus used to be quiet, almost embarrassed. God has removed that spirit of meekness and replaced it with one of power. We’ve broken out of the Asbury House of Prayer. Tonight there’s singing and rejoicing in the streets. One person was healed of life-long blood clots, another of knee pain and another of a stomach virus. There’s so much more. I can’t even begin to describe it all in words.

Dear Intercessors,

Praise the Lord for the great wins in Virginia, New Jersey and Maine! The Virginia and New Jersey elections were won--across the board--by the candidates who best represented Biblical principles. In New Jersey, Republican Chris Christie won the gubernatorial seat. In Virginia, Bob McDonnell was elected Governor, Bill Bolling was elected Lieutenant Governor, and Ken Cuccinelli was elected Attorney General.

The congressional seat in New York State was won by Democrat Bill Owens after Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava withdrew from the race just days prior to the election, putting her full support behind Owens, whose ideology and agenda was virtually indistinguishable from her own. In Northern California, a special election to a congressional seat was also won by the most liberal candidate.

Please continue to pray for all of our governmental leaders.
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." 1 Tim 2:1-4

Washington State voters are narrowly approving the state's new "everything but marriage" law that marks a significant expansion of the homosexual agenda. With about 50 percent of the expected vote counted, Referendum 71 was leading 51 percent to 49 percent. The expanded law adds benefits such as the right to use sick leave to care for a domestic partner, and rights related to adoption, child custody and child support. Now that this measure has been passed, gay marriage could be the next step in Washington state. Please continue to intercede for the state of Washington in the battle for Biblical marriage and family.

We are celebrating, however, a great victory Biblical marriage in the state of Maine and for all of New England! Maine became the 31st state to reject same-sex "marriage" at the ballot box yesterday. With 87 percent of precincts reporting, those opposed to gay-marriage had 53 percent of the vote in a referendum to repeal the state's law allowing same-sex marriage. 아픔의 신비

몸이 아픈 것을 좋아하는 사람은 없을 것입니다. 좋아하지 않는다 해서 일생을 두고 단 한번도아프지 않은 사람도 없습니다. 원하든 원치 않든 피할 수 없이 아플때가 있습니다. 의학적으로몸이 아픈 현상은 원래의 정상의 몸으로 돌아가고자 하는 과정에서 일어난 입니다. 하지만 신앙적으로 볼 때 가장 놀라운 축복과 은총이 부어지는 순간도 아플 때 즉 자신이 약할 때입니다. 사도 바울은 고후 12:10 에 “그러므로 내가 그리스도를 위하여 약한 것들과 능욕과 궁핍과 핍박과곤란을 기뻐하노니 이는 내가 약할 그 때에 곧 강함이니라” 고 연학할 때의 축복을 말합니다.

몸이 아프면 만사가 싫어 집니다. 어떤 일을 해야 함에도 그 일을 할 능력을 제대로 발휘하지 못하거나 또는 행할 수 없습니다. 아프다는 이유 하나만으로 너무나 많은 일들이 지연되고 때론장애를 겪습니다. 이러한 일들은 정상일때의 시각으로 그렇게 해야하는 정당성과 일의 우선순위가 있을때 보는 경우입니다. 하지만 몸의 입장에서 ‘일’이나 또는 ‘사역’이 우선이 아니라 ‘건강’과 ‘정상’적 기능이 우선이기에 몸에 이상이 생기면 온 몸이 제 기능을 다하기까지 충분한 회복이 되기까지 몸이 쉬도록 ‘아픔’의 신호를 보냅니다.

이는 우리의 몸은 하나님의 신비로운 체계로 되어 있기 때문입니다. 하나님께서 만물을 지으시고 또한 모든 생명을 지으셨을 때 사람만큼은 가장 놀라운 피조물이 되도록 창조하셨습니다. 지음 받은 사람의 코에 하나님께서 생기를 불어 넣으셨습니다. 성경은 “사람을 하나님의 형상(imago Dei)과 모양(likeness) 으로 지으셨다(창 1:26)”고 말합니다. 영과 혼과 육을 가진 사람에게 하나님은 에덴 동산에서 생육하고 번성할 뿐 아니라 다스리고 정복하도록 명령하셨습니다(창 1:28). 에덴 동산에서 가장 완벽하게 지음받은 우리 인간의 몸은 어떤 바이러스도 없고 해악도 없는 곳에 가장 최상의 몸을 유지하고 살아 가도록 지음을 받았다는 사실에 이의를 제기할사람은 없을 것입니다.

그러나 인간의 몸에 질병이 들어 온 기원은 아담과 하와의 타락한 이후임이 분명합니다. 인류에게 치명타를 준 죄가 들어 오고 그 이후론 우리 인류는 끊임없는 질병과의 싸움을 해왔습니다. 각종 질병, 외부적 요인의 전염병, 현대 의학으로 해결할 수 없는 각종불치병, 천형이라 불리우는 HIV (AIDS) 그리고 모기나 해충으로부터 감염되는 말라리라와 각종질병 이제는 변종 독감에 이르기까지 질병의 종류는 갈수록 많아지고 있습니다. 이러한 질병을해결하고자 하는 인류의 부단없는 노력을 기울여 왔습니다. 인류는 비단 의학과 과학의 발달 뿐아니라 인간의 지정의는 물론 영적 세계에 대한 근원적 규명에 온 힘을 쏟았고, 그 중에 질병 퇴치는 인류의 가장 중요한 난제 가운데 하나입니다. 단순히 병을 규명하고 치료하는 행위만 중요한 것이 아니라 질병이라는 것과 이를 회복하는 모든 과정을 통해 우리 몸에 부어주신 창조의신비인 ‘항상성’을 돌아 볼 수 있습니다.

저는 2009년도에 미국 전 도시를 비롯해 카나다로, 터키로, 한국으로, 이스라엘과 중동 지역으로, 필리핀으로 영국으로 각 나라를 다니며 주님이 주신 여러가지 사역을 감당할 수 있었습니다. 온대와 열대, 서반구와 북반구, 대서양과 태평양을 넘나 들며 이곳 저곳을 다닐 때 낮과 밤이뒤바뀌고 문화와 풍습이 전혀 다른 지역을 경험하며 다음날은 또 다른 지역으로 이동해야 했습니다. 하나님께서 건강을 주셨기에 이 일을 감당한 줄 믿습니다. 그러나 그 많은 일들 중에 하나님의 지음을 받은 나의 몸을 잘 간수하는 일에는 등한히 했음을 이번 아픔을 통해 깨닫게 됩니다. 하나님의 최고의 피조물이라 할지라도 창조의 원칙인 적절한 노동과 휴식을 잘 지키지 못하면 ‘건강’을 잃거나 또는 아프게 됩니다. 이는 굳이 의학적으로 말하면, 우리 몸의 면역(immunization) 시스템과 항상성(homeostasis)을 잃어 버렸기 때문이라고 합니다. 우리의 인체의 12 가지 큰 시스템 가운데 특히 피부, 골격계, 심혈관계, 소화계, 면역계등과 같은 것들 중어떤 것 하나만 균형을 잃어도 금방 우리 몸이 아프게 되거나 또는 질병으로 발전됩니다. 우리몸을 가장 최적의 상태로 만들어 주도록 하는 ‘항상성’은 서로 신호를 주고 받고 피드백 작용을통해 한 쪽이 약해지면 다른 쪽이 빨리 보충해 주어 균형을 유지해 줍니다. 항상성의 중요성은두말할 나위가 없습니다. 우리 몸을 구성하고 있는 단백질이나 또는 이와 같은 여러 구성 성분의 균형을 유지하기 위해 우리는 인체의 신호 시스템을 이용하고 부족하고 넘치는 부분에 대해의견을 주고 받아 몸의 ‘항상성’을 유지해 주게 되고, 우리는 이를 ‘건강하다’ 또는 ‘정상이다’라고 말합니다. 하지만 크든 작든 우리 몸의 어떤 부분의 ‘항상성’이 깨질 때 우리는 아프게 되고또는 질병이 들어 오게 됩니다.

몸이 아프게 되어 일주일 동안 드러눕게 되고 제대로 먹지도 못한 것은 분명 일의 효과성을 볼때에는 손실인 것처럼 보입니다. 하지만 인간을 창조하신 하나님의 섭리에서 보면 자신의 약함을 발견하는 것 만큼 큰 축복이 없음을 봅니다. 자신이 약해진 만큼 그곳에 채워지는 은총의 보상이 있기 때문입니다. 바울은 고전 2:3에서 “내가 너희 가운데 거할 때에 약하며 두려워하며 심히 떨었노라”라고 자신의 약함을 증거했습니다. 심지어 골 1:24에는 “내가 이제 너희를 위하여받는 괴로움을 기뻐하고 그리스도의 남은 고난을 그의 몸된 교회를 위하여 내 육체에 채우노라”라고 했습니다. 힘을 다하든지 쇠잔해 지든지 온 몸이 핍절하든지 한 영혼 구원하기 위해, 그리스도의 교회를 위한 고난과 환란을 통해 받게 되는 ‘육신의 약함’이 파도처럼 밀려 온다 해도장차 받을 영광과 족히 비견할 수 없기에 오늘도 십자가의 길을 가기를 원합니다.

Maine voters tell the legislature marriage is one man, one woman

Yesterday, the voter's of Maine exercised their right to a 'people's veto,' affirming marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The New England state, which was poised to be only the second state to allow same-sex "marriage" by a vote of the legislature, instead reversed course and joined with 30 other states where voters have affirmed traditional marriage.

Shortly before 1 a.m. this morning, the Associated Press called the contest in favor for the "Yes on Question 1" campaign with nearly 53% of the vote. Early returns, slanted heavily towards urban areas, had given advocates of same-sex "marriage" some hope that they would come out on top, but as votes continued to be tallied, the "yes" vote took the lead and built on it.

"This is a great victory for the people of Maine, but once again a bittersweet moment for us here in Massachusetts," said MFI President Kris Mineau. "It is appalling that in the so-called 'cradle of liberty' the people have never been allowed to speak on the definition of marriage. With marriage vote victories being 31 for 31 states across the country, there is no doubt why the homosexual special interests groups spent so much money and time in denying the citizens of Massachusetts the opportunity to vote on our Marriage Amendment."

In May, Gov. John E. Baldacci became the nation's first governor to sign a same-sex "marriage" bill into law without previous action by the courts, but grassroots activists quickly took to the streets, launching a referendum petition drive that resulted in Question 1 being on the ballot yesterday. Over the course of the campaign, the "yes" side was grossly outspent by the "no" side, but in the end, people voted their values.

"Over and over again, the American people have affirmed marriage at the ballot box and turned aside the demands of a movement that remains largely driven by Hollywood, some extreme activists, and a few activist judges," said FRC President Tony Perkins. "Traditional marriage supporters ran an incredibly strong grassroots campaign and prevailed despite being outspent three to one."

MFI testifies against casino gambling

Last Thursday's casino hearing was busy and long as advocates and opponents of resort casinos gave impassioned testimony about the costs and so-called "benefits" of expanded predatory gambling. The hearing was before the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, and marked the first of a series of planned hearings before any action will be taken at some point next year.

"Why is this not being considered a consumer protection issue when slot machines are very carefully designed to addict people and then to swindle them for everything they have?" asked Evelyn Reilly, MFI's director of public policy, in her testimony quoted in the Boston Globe. She cited statistics that show that as many as "two out of three people in the state" could be negatively impacted were multiple resort casinos to open in the Bay State.

Testifying with Reilly was Tricia Endicott, the daughter of a gambling addict. Because of his habit, her father lost his business, and her family lost their cars, their home and so much more. "Gambling has interfered with his whole life, and I've missed out on having a dad, and he's lost out on so much," she told the committee. "I am asking you to not legalize gambling in this way. You provide easy access to the addictions that are so prevalent."

Joining MFI at the hearing were anti-casino leaders from United to Stop Slots in Massachusetts (USS Mass) and Stop Predatory Gambling, as well as professionals from the medical and psychology fields. In an example of how policy-making brings together people of differing ideological stripes, two of the most outspoken legislators against casinos are Sen. Susan Tucker (D-Andover) and Rep. Carl Sciortino (D-Somerville), both supporters of same-sex "marriage."

The Gardner Auditorium was also filled with members of labor unions who are only interested in the construction and service jobs that would be created were casinos to be built. Their mantra was "jobs, jobs, jobs" with a total disregard of the social costs of predatory gambling.

It remains to be seen what, if any, expanded gambling the Legislature decides to rally around. It could range from slot machines at the state's racetracks to multiple resort-style casinos. Legislative leaders have said no action will be taken until next year, and MFI and our allies will continue our campaign to educate legislators and the public on the major costs of expanded gambling.

Birth control measure loses in Revere, activists planning next move

From Catholic Citizenship's iCatholic newsletter:

Despite a respectable showing, proponents of a local ballot initiative to suspend a newly adopted contraceptive policy in Revere Public Schools were unsuccessful in garnering the number of votes needed to discontinue the controversial program. After collecting 600 letters in opposition to the policy, and over 1,900 certified signatures to put the issue before the voters, the vote tally arrived at 2,695 in favor or 44% of the 6,099 polled on the question. While the vote seemed a setback, the group’s campaign raised the stakes in the debate and elevated the importance of examining a policy many thought to be a “done deal.”

However, according to the Revere Journal, so many new questions on the policy have arisen, including the revelation that the parental consent forms allow for grade-school students to receive ultra-high doses of prescriptive birth-control medication. With local officials scrambling to confront the controversy, the Revere School Committee will now face increased pressure to review the contentious policy and the very existence of the school-based health center. Catholic Citizenship is proud to have contributed to the effort and commends local parents and residents in Revere for mounting an authentic grassroots campaign.

Reporting the issue of contraceptives and the abortive morning-after pill in Revere High School as “the single most defining issue of this year’s election,” the Revere Journal had editorialized in favor of the tremendous effort by the group Our Teens Our Schools ahead of last night’s election.

The group is currently considering a number of options after the question’s narrow defeat.

Gov. Carcieri signs prostitution ban in Rhode Island

Gov. Don Carcieri (R-Rhode Island), the keynote speaker at MFI's banquet last month, signed legislation Tuesday afternoon outlawing indoor prostitution in the Ocean State, closing a decades-long loophole in the law. Outside of some counties in Nevada, Rhode Island had the ignominious designation as the only state that allowed prostitution, as long as the act and solicitation took place indoors.

According to the Providence Journal, neon signs outside numerous Asian "spas" went dark, with many employees refusing to come to work, fearing a police crackdown. Prostitutes had been able to operate for years legally out of brothels, strip clubs and their homes because of the 30-year-old loophole.

"For almost 30 years, Rhode Island has had the terrible distinction of being the only state outside certain counties in Nevada where indoor prostitution is not considered a crime," Carcieri said. The governor declared that prostitution "erodes the moral fiber of our state," and commended supporters for their hard work in getting the legislation passed during a special session of the General Assembly last week.

The law makes indoor prostitution a misdemeanor crime punishable, for first offenders, by up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000, or both. However, the law empowers judges to erase the criminal convictions of first offenders. Customers or “johns” face the same penalties as prostitutes, but without the possibility of getting their criminal records expunged.

Health care vote imminent, call Congress

Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) introduced her "new and improved" plan to facilitate a government takeover of the health care system. This 1,990+ page bill is nearly twice as long as the one proposed earlier this year that prompted the outrage at rallies and town halls across the country.

The new bill, the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962), has been scheduled to go to the House floor this week for a few hours of debate, starting as early as tomorrow. A vote could come soon after debate concludes.

The bill contains provisions that permits federal taxpayer funding of abortion services, creates a "health care czar" that could forcibly enroll individuals in government-run insurance, includes a government-run option, proposes inadequate citizenship and legal status standards for illegal immigrants to receive coverage, facilitates the inclusion of domestic partners as "spouses," and includes numerous tax increases.

Tomorrow morning, opponents of casinos and slot machines, including Massachusetts Family Institute, will be holding a press conference in the State House calling on the Legislature to reject predatory gambling for our state. It is important that as many people as possible turn out to send a message to the press and the legislators that opposition to bringing expanded legalized gambling to Massachusetts is there, and it's strong.

Homosexual youth organization allows adults, not press to Halloween dance

The Boston Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Youth (BAGLY), known for its infamous gay and lesbian prom at Boston City Hall each year, is hosting its annual Halloween Dance & Health Services Fair this Friday evening. They recently put out a call for adult chaperones for the event, and nowhere does it say there will be any type of background check of volunteers.

Beyond the lack of background checks for the adult chaperones, they also allow adult homosexuals to participate in the event with underage attendees. "All BAGLY's events are for GLBT, queer or questioning youth ages 22 and under." This allows a 21-year-old homosexual access to a 13-year-old middle school child.

The organization also doesn't want anyone to know what goes on inside this event: "BAGLY does NOT allow ANY press into our events. ANY ADULT inside taking pictures of or interviewing ANY youth should be asked to leave." This likely has something to do with the "20 community organizations" that have been invited to have tables at this event to allow "young people to have better access to services that are provided for them in the Boston area." There will be free on-site HIV testing and counseling as well.

Boston Globe: Contraceptive patch leads to deaths

Thousands of lawsuits have been brought against the makers of Ortho Evra, a birth control patch made by Johnson & Johnson, by women who have used the patch have suffered heart attacks, strokes, or blood clots. At least 20 women named in the suit died after using the patch. At least 2 million women still use the drug, despite sales plummeting after word of its side effects spread.

According to the Boston Globe, two whistleblowers came forward to say Johnson & Johnson was downplaying the risks that came with the drug's high estrogen levels. The company has dismissed their claims, but has changed the label three times to reflect its true estrogen levels, and to warn about possible side effects.

That's not good enough for Sideny Wolfe, the director of the Health Research Group at Public Citizen, a DC-based consumer advocacy group. He cites research showing that the patch delivers far more estrogen than birth control pills, and that higher estrogen levels can double a woman's risk for blood clots like the one that killed a 17-year-old Chelsea girl.

The girl's mother is hoping to take the case to trial, instead of settling with the company (who has already paid out $70 million in settlements). "I don't care about struggling," she said, referring to being unemployed and narrowly escaping foreclosure. "I want this drug off the market."

Maine governor urges "no" vote on marriage question

Maine Gov. John Baldacci came out strongly in opposition to traditional marriage at a press conference on Tuesday, urging residents to vote no on Question 1 which would undo the same-sex "marriage" bill he and the legislature thrust on the people earlier this year. He was joined at the news conference by members of the "Vote No" campaign.

Next Tuesday, Maine voters will cast ballots to decide whether to repeal the state's same-sex "marriage" law. Supporters of traditional marriage were successful earlier this year in getting the signatures necessary to put the "people's veto" on the ballot.

Rhode Island prostitution ban compromise gets hearing

Rhode Island lawmakers were scheduled to hear testimony yesterday to make indoor prostitution illegal, but empower judges to erase any record of charges of convicted prostitutes after one year. This compromise bill would treat prostitution differently from other nonviolent misdemeanor crimes, which can be "expunged" only for a first offender. Prostitutes with multiple convictions, by contrast, would still be eligible to have the charges removed from their record, reports the Providence Journal.

The House and the Senate tried and failed last May to reach an agreement on legislation to close the nearly 30-year-old loophole in the state's prostitution law, but the latest draft of the bill is considered a compromise. The bill was scheduled have a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee yesterday, with an identical bill going before the Senate Judiciary Committee today.

The House sponsor says the criminal penalties are the same as the House bill in May, but the allowing of a judge to erase the convictions after a year was a concession to the Senate. If the new law is passed, prostitutes would face criminal misdemeanor fines or imprisonment, or both. First offenders would face fines of $250 to $1,000 and up to six months in prison, or both; multiple offenders would face up to a year in prison.

If the bill is found favorable by the two committees, full debate and a vote by the House and Senate would follow.

Defense Department report says don't ask, don't tell policy no threat to national security

According to the Center for Military Readiness (CMR), claims that the U.S. military's policy of discharging openly homosexual soldiers threatens national security by reducing troop numbers are not supported by data from the Defense Department. The latest day show that the number of people discharged from the U.S. military for homosexuality represents less than 1 percent of the total number of people discharged for all other reasons.

For example, 634 soldiers were discharged in 2008 for homosexuality, or .337 percent of the 187,331 total discharges in 2008. That same year, 5,627 people were discharged for drugs; 3,817 for serious offenses; 4,555 for weight standards; 2,353 for pregnancy, and 2,574 for parenthood. Furthermore, half of the discharges for homosexuality are self-reported by individuals who want to get out of their military commitment.

"Newly released Defense Department figures documenting military discharges in the past five years confirm the pattern evident in the previous decade: discharges due to homosexuality affect a minuscule number of troops, and represent less than one percent of personnel losses that occur for other legitimate reasons," explain the Center for Military Readiness.

Despite support for the policy within the ranks of the military, President Obama told an audience at the Human Rights Campaign's annual dinner on Oct. 10 that he is "working with the Pentagon, its leadership, and the members of the House and Senate on ending this policy ... I will end 'don't ask, don't tell.' That's my commitment to you."

영국에서 보스톤 오는 길에

하나님의 인도하심은 어느정도일까? 잠시 스쳐 지나가는 곳 같은 곳에 이미 오래전부터 예비한 사람들을 분초마다 만나게 하시는 놀라운 역사를 보며, 런던에서 보스톤으로 가는 상공에서 잠시 눈을 감고 기도에 잠겨 본다. 그의 섬세한 인도하심과 분초를 아끼시며 역사하시는 그분의 세심한 임재를 보며 절로 찬양과 감사가 나온다. 이곳 저곳을 지나가는 것 같아도 그 모든 발걸음에는 반드시 가야할 곳과 만나야 할 사람을 만나게 하시는 은총이 차고 넘친다.

나는 버밍엄에서 런던 히드로 공항으로 가는 차안에서 지난 며칠간 경험한 일들을 생각하며 다짐한 일이 하나 있다.

영국과 웨일즈 다녀 온 일들을 글로 쓰면 좋을 것이라는 점이다.

인류 역사를 바꾼 부흥의 현장을 방문하며 느낀 소회와 이제는 퇴락하는 모습을 비교하는 글을쓰는 것이다.

이 글은 그저 지나간 역사를 단순히 되새기는 것이 아닌 새로운 부흥을 예비하라는 메세지를 전하기 위해서이다.

버밍엄에서 웨일즈까지 다녀 온 모든 흔적과 발자취에는 과거와 현재 그리고 미래의 모습이 담겨있다.

대동강 쑥섬에 뿌려진 최초의 순교자 토마스를 파송했던 그 교회당을 방문하였다. 지금 그곳을 맞이하는 사람은 다른 사람이 아닌 오랜 교분이 있는 Steve and Stella Price 박사부부였다. 비록 짧은 기간이지만 그들을 토마스 기념 교회에서 만난 기쁨은 얼마나 놀라운 것인가? 2009 에베소 성회에서 교제를 나눈 Gale Dixon 을 다름아닌 한국 교회와 가장 중요한 인물이 관련된 곳에서 만났다.

바로 토마스 선교사의 자손이 세대를 거쳐 지켜 온 그곳에 웨일즈와 유럽 부흥을 위한 Nations 사역이 진행되고 있음은 어떻게 설명할 수 있을까? 한국 교회와 웨일즈 그리고 대영제국 그리고 유럽 전체와 연대하여 일어날 새로운 부흥의 구름을 엿볼 수 있다. 3년반의 가뭄 끝에 손바닥만한 구름 조각일지라도 이 구름은 분명 부흥을 몰고 오는 것임에는틀림없다. 부흥을 일으키는 바로 그 자리에 한국인들이 몰려 오고 앞으로 미국인과 수많은 나라 사람들이몰려 와 새로운 부흥의 물꼬를 열게 될 것을 생각만 해도 가슴이 벅차 오른다.

1904년 웨일즈 부흥 운동이 일어났던 Moriah 교회를 찾았을 때, 매주 월요일 그 자리에는 부흥을 사모하는 분들이 모여 기도하고 있었다. 황급히 떠나려는 우리 일행에게 대표 기도를 부탁하기에 나는 부흥이 일어난 그 자리에 서서 목소리를 높여 기도하였다. 그들을 위해 기도하고 나자, 연세 많으신 분들의 눈에, 특히 호수같이 맑고 깨끗한 파란 눈에 뜨거운 눈물이 흘러 내림을 보며 그 자리를 차마 뜰 수 없었다.

에반 로버츠가 기도함으로 시작된 그 부흥의 현장에 인도 카시아에서 온 사람, 미국에서 온 사람들이 이제는 그 자리를 지키며 새로운 부흥을 위한 기도를 드리고 있는 것이다. 이제는 웨일즈에만 부흥의 역사가 일어날 것이 아니라 영국과 유렵의 대부흥을 예비하며 기도하는 무리들이 있었다.

몇년전부터 그토록 만나고 싶었던 곳이 있다면 그곳은 다름아닌 Birmingham World Prayer Center이다. (http://www.worldprayer.org.uk)

그들의 말로는 세계 최대라고 하는 2천5백석이 되는 World Prayer Center 에 대한 Vision 을 받은 사람은 아이안 콜 (Ian Cole) 로 바로 1980년이니 이미 18년이 넘었다. 이것을 실현할 대단한 크기의 53 Acre 의 땅도 기증받아 이제는 중보기도를 통해 부흥을 예비하는 바로 그곳은 기적의 현장이었다.

World Prayer Center 의 사무실로 쓰이는 건물도 또 하나의 기적을 창출하고 있었다. 단 1 파운드로 수만달라를 내야 할 건물을 사용하고 있다면 누가 믿겠는가? 그것도 바로 도심 한복판 금싸라기에 위치한 보배와 같은 건물 전체를 단 1 파운드의 월세로 내며 매일 기도의 불씨를 지피고 있다.

우리 일행은 토마스 기념 교회당과 Nations 장소, Evan Roberts 의 부흥의 현장만 다녀 온 것이아니었다.

중보 기도만을 통해 전세계에 가장 지속적인 부흥의 역사를 보여 준 바로 리즈 하웰즈(Rees Howells)의 발자취를 더듬어 볼 수 있었다는 점이다. 그가 오직 중보 기도로 세운 신학교를 돌아 보며 역사를 움직인 엄청난 위력에 차마 발걸음을뗄수 없었다. 지금 운영난에 봉착한 그 학교가 이제는 웨일즈에서 영국으로 옮기느라 가구를 옮기는 그 모습을 보며 참담한 마음 금할 수 없었다. 과거의 찬란한 부흥의 역사와 초라하기 그지 없는 영국 교회의 현주소를 보며 또한 마음이 아파온다.

유럽 부흥을 가르치며 연구했던 Birmingham Christian College, 그 척박한 영국 땅에서 영혼의청량제같았던 부흥 강좌를 들었던 곳이다. PhD 과정을 밞으며 2년 동안 강의를 들었던 그 교정은 페허처럼 을씬스러웠고, 간신히 재개하여 다른 곳으로 자리를 옮긴 것이다.

우편 번호 하나만을 가지고 다시 옮긴 곳을 찾은 그곳은 놀랍게도 Crowther Hall 이 있던 곳이다. 세계 각국으로 선교사를 훈련시켜 보냈던, Crowther Hall (크라우더 대학)은 영국 최대 선교 단체중 하나인 Church Missionary Society 가 훈련을 했던 대학이다. Inter-religious Dialogue 강좌로 아프리카, 아시아와 전 세계 각국에서 온 지도자들과 매주 만나대화하며 세계 교회의 주요 의제를 다루었던 그 학교는 문을 닫고 이제 다시 간신히 문을 열게된 Birmingham Christian College 가 그 자리를 채워 다시 사용하고 있었다. 300년 찬란한 역사를 자랑하는 Society of Propagation of Gospel 의 선교 학교였던 United College of Ascension 도 CMS 와 같은 신세가 되었다. 운영란에 봉착해 영국 감리교회와 합병했지만 이제는 역사의 뒤안길로 사라지며 초라한 흔적만을 남겨 두고 있다. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USPG) 볼쌍 사나운 가을비가 발에 채이는 낙엽들을 적시는 날 많은 강좌를 들었던 그 학교 앞 낡은 교정 앞을 지나가는 나의 마음은 착잡하기 그지 없었다.

2004년 2월에 영국에서 보스톤으로 온지 실로 5년 8개월만에 영국에는 많은 변화가 있었다.

서구 교회의 몰락은 실로 심각한 것이며 그 속도는 줄어들지 않는다.

아니다. 가속도가 붙고 있다!

얼마나 더 많은 전설적인 신학교와 훈련 기관 그리고 교회들이 계속 문을 닫을 것인가?

버밍엄에서, 세익스피어의 고향으로, 윈스턴 처칠의 고향으로, 옥스포드로, World Prayer Center 로, 웨일즈로 오고 가는 길에 그리고 버밍엄 한인교회 집회를 인도하는 중에 우리 일행이머물었던 숙소는 영국 역사상 놀라운 부흥 운동을 일으켰던 퀘이교도들이 세운 Woodbrooke College 였다. 버밍엄에 있을 동안에 Woodbrooke College 에서 열렸던 Christians and Muslims Dialogue 와Christians and Jews Dialogue 가 매월 열렸던 Cadbury Hall 이 위치해 있는 낯익은 대학이다.

우리 일행이 머무는 동안 내내 불교 강좌가 열려 매 식사마다 불공을 드리며, 불교에 열광하며참선을 하는 크리스챤 그룹과 퀘이교도를 만나야만 했다. 머리를 단정이 깍은 벽안의 파란 눈의 승려와 비구니들이 불교식 묵상 기도를 드리는 모습을 보며 그토록 비통할 수 없었다 참선을 인도하시는 비구니의 외모를 보아하니 한국에서 오신 분 같았다. 하바드 대학의 Divinity school 에서 한국의 숭산 스님을 만나 운명적 개종(?)을 한 유대인 배경이있는 현각 스님이 불교의 최전선 전파자가 되어 모교인 하바드 대학을 찾아 왔어 강연할 때 예배당에 불상 차려 놓은 곳에 열광하는 Divinity school 의 신학교수들이 열광하는 모습을 잊을 수없다.

그 자리에, 꼭 배교자들이 모인 곳 같은 그 자리에는 한국 최초의 감리교 선교사님의 자손이 하바드 신과 대학에서 불교를 가르치고 있었다.

그분은 놀랍게도 Little 교수이다.

그도 소승불교의 대가(?)가 되어 보스톤에 불교를 전파하고 하바드 대학에서는 불교를 신학(?)으로 가르치고 있다.

부흥의 현장이 무너지는 것만 보는 것이 아니라, 그 부흥의 현장에 불교와 시크교와 이슬람과힌두교와 동방종교와 뉴에이지가 어우러져 우리를 조롱하는 것만 같아 마음이 아려온다. 스쳐 지나가는 발걸음 하나에 과거의 역사와 현재의 역사 그리고 미래를 예표하는 것이 덩쿨채로 걸려 나온다. 이제 “ 새로운 부흥을 예비하는 사람들”과 타이타닉처럼 침몰하는 “유럽과 영국 교회”의 암울함을 보며 이 시대에 주시는 주님의 음성을 들어야 한다.

우리를 통해 새로운 부흥의 불길이 일어나도록 기도할 때이다.

University of Michigan 에 날아 오신 Daniel Pak 교수님, 달라스 텍사스에 온 David Moon 전도사님, 그리고 버밍엄 한인 교회의 이준호 목사님과 모든 성도님과의 아름다운 만남을 주신 주님을 찬양하며 또한 감사를 드린다.

새로운 부흥을 위한 대로를 예비하는 길에 작은 자들의 기도가 하나되어 하늘 보좌를 움직이는기적이 일어나기를 간절히 사모해 본다.

It is not often that we find men and women of true courage and convictions, people who willingly risk their own lives to protect our precious freedoms of speech and worship. Geert Wilders, a Dutch political leader, is one such courageous man - a Christian who also stands firmly with Israel.

In 2007, before the Dutch Parliament, Geert warned: "Islam is the Trojan Horse in Europe. If we do not stop Islmamification now, Eurabia and Netherabia will just be a matter of time."

In 2008, Geert produced a 17 minute video, Fitna, that exposed Koranic-inspired terrorism and the Islamists' quest for global conquest.

A text of Geert Wilder's speech:

I would not qualify myself as a free man. 5 years ago I lost my personal freedom. Since then I am under 24-hour police protection. In addition some people tried to rob my freedom of speech: A Dutch Islamic organization tried to stop the appearance of my documentary 'Fitna'. Because of 'Fitna' the most radical Dutch imam claimed 55.000 Euros in compensation for his hurt feelings. The State of Jordan is possibly going to issue a request for my extradition, to stand trial in Amman. I have been charged in France.

In my own country, the Netherlands, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal overruled the decision of the Dutch public prosecutor not to prosecute me. So, now I have to stand trial in my own country, next January.

But, it is not about me. I am not the only European who fights for freedom of speech, there are so many more: The Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard made a Muhammad-cartoon and all of a sudden we were in the middle of the so called 'Danish cartoon crisis'. The Italian author Oriana Fallaci had to live in fear of extradition to Switzerland because of her book 'The Rage and the Pride'. An Austrian politician, Susanne Winter, was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence because she spoke bluntly about the prophet Muhammad. The Dutch cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot was arrested by 10 police men because of his drawings. And the Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh was brutally murdered in the streets of Amsterdam by a radical Muslim.

Last February, I was invited by 2 brave members of the British House of Lords - Lord Malcom Pearson and Baroness Caroline Cox - to show 'Fitna' in the British Parliament. But upon my arrival at Heathrow airport I was denied entry into the UK, on grounds that I would threaten community harmony and therefore public security.

Of course that was a ridiculous and politically motivated claim by the UK government. I was allowed to show 'Fitna' and deliver a speech in the US Senate, in New York, in Florida, in California, in Copenhagen, in Rome, in Jerusalem and next month in the Senate of the Czech Republic. Butthe British government refused my entrance into the UK, a fellow EU-country. Well, I think it was a splendid American idea, back in the 18th century, to kickthe British out.

Last week, my appeal against the refusal by the British government, took place in London; and I won. Freedom finally prevailed! A UK Court ruled that the decision of the British Home Secretary to ban me was unjust, illegal and a violation of freedom of speech. Fortunately the British judges are a lot wiser than the British government. So, last Friday I went to London and met with my friends Lord Pearson and Baroness Cox and we agreed to show 'Fitna' in the House of Lords, next March.

But let me tell you what also happened during our press conference. A Muslim mob demonstrated outside, shouting: "Shariah for the Netherlands", "Enemy of Islam Geert Wilders deserves capital punishment", "Freedom go to hell" and "Islam will dominate the world". Welcome to Europe today!

You can see all this for yourself on YouTube. This is exactly what we are fighting against. And it gets even worse. A few days ago British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reported that an Islamic group indeed launched a campaign to impose shariah law in Britain, they will meet later this month in London for a procession to demand the full implementation of shariah law.

Before I want to speak about Islam, I first would like to say this: I have nothing against Muslims. There are many moderate Muslims. The majority of Muslims in our Western countries are law abiding people, who want to live a peaceful life. I know that. Therefore, I make a clear distinction between the people and the ideology, between Muslims and Islam.

What is happening in Europe should not come as a surprise. The reality is that where Islam roots, free speech dies. There is not a single Islamic country in the world where people are really totally free to say what they think. Ever since the so called prophet Muhammad ordered his men to kill the poet Asmabint Marwan, the brave woman who warned her people against this murderous cult, radical Muslims think they have a license to kill anyone, who dares to criticize Muhammad's word or actions.Free speech is Islam's enemy. Islam is a threat to the Europe of Socrates, Voltaire and Galileo.

As I said, there are many moderate Muslims. But there is no such thing as a moderate Islam. Islam's heart lies in the Koran. The Koran is an evil book that calls for violence and murder - Sura 4, Verse 89 and Sura 47, Verse 4 -, terrorism - Sura 8, Verse 60 - and war - Sura 8, Verse 39. The Koran describes Jews as monkeys and pigs - Sura 2, Verse 65 / Sura 5, Verse 60 and Sura 7, Verse 166. It calls non-Muslims liars, miscreants, enemies, ignorant, unclean, wicked, evil, the worst of creatures and the vilest of animals.

The problem is that the provisions in the Koran are not restricted to time or place. Rather, they apply to all Muslims, from all times. Apart from the Koran, there is also the life of Muhammad, who fought in dozens of wars, who spread Islam with the sword, sold imprisoned women and children as slaves, who was in the habit of decapitating Jews and who married and consummated the young girl Aisha before she was ten years of age. The problem is that, to many `Muslims, Muhammad is 'the perfect man', whose life is the model to follow. But the facts show that the so called Prophet was not a perfect man but a murderer and a pedophile. And inspired by him jihadists with the promise of a carnal paradise slaughtered innocent people in Washington, New York, Madrid, London, Amsterdam, Bali and Mumbai.

Ladies and gentlemen, some time ago an interview was held in France with the French Muslim student Mohamed Sabaoui, who said the following, and I quote: "Your laws do not coincide with the Koran, Muslims can only be ruled by shariah law", and "we will declare the town of Roubaix an independent Muslim enclave and impose shariah law upon all its citizens, and "we will be your Trojan Horse, we will rule, Allah Akbar". End ofquote.

Make no mistake: Islam has always attempted to conquer Europe. Spain fell in the 8th century. Constantinople fell in the 15th century. Vienna and Poland were threatened, and now, in the 21st century, Islam is trying again. This time not with military armies, but through migration and demography.

For the first time in world history there are dozens of millions of Muslims living outside the Dar al-Islam, the Islamic world. Europe now has more than 50 million Muslims. It is expected that one fifth of the population of the European Union will be Muslim within 40 years.

In 1974 no one took the Algerian President Boumédienne all too serious when he said to the UN general assembly: "One day millions of men will leave the southern hemisphere of this planet to burst into the northern one. But not as friends. Because they will burst in to conquer, and they will conquer by populating it with their children. Victory will come to us from the wombs of our women". End ofquote.

And Libyan dictator Gaddafi said: "There are tens of millions of Muslims in the European continent and the number is on the increase. This is the clear indication that the European continent will be converted to Islam. Europe will one day be a Muslim continent". End ofquote.

Indeed Gaddafi is telling the truth here, through the Islamic concept of migration - called Al Hijra - Europe is in the process of becoming Eurabia. In Europe churches are emptying out, whereas mosques are shooting up like mushrooms. Muhammad is the most popular name among boys in many European cities. Medieval phenomena as burkas, honor killings and female genital mutilation are becoming more and more prevalent. In the UK, by now 85 shariah law courts are active, the same country where Islamic organizations asked to stop the commemoration of the Holocaust, and a minister is pleading to change the Red Cross logo, because it might offend Muslims. In Austria, history teachers avoid teaching on the Austrian wars against the Islamic invaders. In France school teachers are advised to avoid authors deemed offensive to Muslims, including Voltaire. In Norway, children are made to sing Islamic songs as "Allah Akbar" and "Little Muslim, do you pray?" In Belgium, a man almost died after being beaten up by Muslims, because he was drinking during the Ramadan. Jews are fleeing France in record numbers, on the run for the worst wave of anti-Semitism since World War II. The rise of Islam also means the rise of shariah law in our judicial systems. In Europe we have it all: Shariah testaments, shariah mortgages, shariah schools, shariah banks, as I said in the UK there are even 85 shariah courts. Islam regards shariah law to be above all man-made laws, including our constitutions. As you know, shariah law covers all areas of life, from religion, hygiene and dietary laws, to dress codes, family and social life and from finance and politics to the unity of Islam with the state. Shariah law does not recognize free speech and freedom of religion.

According to shariah law, killing apostates is a 'virtue', but the consumption of alcohol is a crime. The introduction of shariah law elements in our societies creates a system of legal apartheid. Shariah law systematically discriminates groups of people. I never understood why the leftish and liberal politicians are ignoring all this. Historically they were the ones fighting for the rights of women, gays, non-believers and others. All groups that would be the first to pay a high price if and when Islamic values would become dominant. Their silence is frightening. Now, I am fighting their fight. I fight to protect those groups. I fight against the Islamization of our societies and therefore for the protection of the rights of women, homosexuals, Christians, Jews, apostates, non-believers and kafirs: the non-Muslims. I want to protect these victims for shariah law. And we all should. If we ignore the problem it will not go away, if we don't act now, shariah will be implemented more en more, slowly but gradually and that would mean the end of freedom of speech and democracy in Europe. This is what is at stake, nothing less than our freedom and democracy.

And please make no mistake: Islam is also coming for America. Last July, during a conference in Chicago, organised by Hizb-Ut-Tahrir, the international movement aiming to create an Islamic state under shariah law across the world, the American imam Jaleel Abdul Adil promised to fight "until Islam becomes victorious or we die in the attempt". When asked: "Would you get rid of the United States Constitution for shariah?" he answered: "Yes, The Constitution would be gone".

America is facing a 'stealth Jihad', the Islamic' attempt to introduce Shariah law bit by bit. Allow me to give you a few examples of Islamization in the United States: Muslim taxi drivers at Minneapolis airport refused over 5,000 passengers because they were carrying alcohol; Muslim students are demanding separate campus housing; Muslim women are demanding separate hours in gyms and swimming pools; schools are banning Halloween and Christmas celebrations - indeed, schools are taking pork off their cafeteria menus to avoid offending Muslim students. Ladies and gentlemen, be aware that this is only the beginning. If things continue like this, you will have the same problems as we are currently faced with in Europe.

It is my opinion that Islam is more an ideology than a religion. To be precise, Islam is a political, totalitarian ideology, with worldwide aspirations, just like communism and fascism, because like those ideologies Islam does not intend to assimilate in our societies but wants to dominate and submit us all. In Islam there is no room for anything but Islam. I think the great Winston Churchill was fully right when he, in his book The Second World War, called Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf the new Koran of faith and war.

But, ladies and gentlemen, Islam is not the only problem. There is a second problem, a problem that is called cultural relativism. Our entire Western elite, whether they are politicians, journalists or judges, has lost its way. Their sense of reality has vanished. Those cultural relativists believe that all cultures are equal. They think that the Islamic culture is equal to our culture which is based on Christianity, Judaism and Humanism. Our culture adheres to freedom, human rights and the equality between men and women and not to violence and hatred.

To the cultural relativists, I proudly say: Our Western culture is far better than the Islamic culture. And we should be proud of that and defend it. Unlike most countries where the Islamic culture is dominant, we have a rule of law, a democracy, a functioning parliament, freedom of speech and a constitution that protects us against the government.

It is clear that not everyone sees the danger. I quote a prominent American, who recently won a Nobel Prize: "Throughout history, Islam had demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance", and "Islam is not part of the problem in combating violent extremism, it is an important part of promoting peace", and "We celebrate a great religion, and its commitment to justice and progress". End of quote. I strongly have to disagree with this assessment. Islam has nothing in common with tolerance or peace or justice!

President Obama also celebrated the fact that when the first Muslim-American was elected to Congress, he took the oath using the same Koran that one of the Founding Fathers - Thomas Jefferson - kept in his personal library. It is interesting to know that Thomas Jefferson in 1801 was about to wage war against the Islamic 'Barbary' states of Northern Africa to stop the pillaging of ships and enslavement of more than a million Christians.

The ambassador of these Muslim nations told Thomas Jefferson and John Adams that Muslims find the justification for their slaughter and enslavement of kafir in the Koran. Now I ask you, dear friends, could it be that Thomas Jefferson did not keep a copy of the Koran because he admired Islam but because he wanted to understand the ruthless nature of his enemies?

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe in democracy, I believe in the American people and the choices it makes, and normally, as a politician from Holland, I would never judge your President. But these remarks of President Obama, do not only affect America, but Europe too. I am afraid that President Obama's remarks could be a turning point in history. I fear that serious geo political changes are looming, changes that will alter our foreign policies, our view on free speech, changes that will alter the West, our way of life, and for the worse and not for the better.

In a matter of fact, it is already happening right now. Recently the United States joined Egypt in sponsoring an anti-free speech resolution in the UN Human Rights Council. You know that council that itself is an insult to human rights since the worst human rights offenders of the world like Cuba, Saudi-Arabia and Pakistan are members. The Obama-administration and Europe supported a resolution to recognize exceptions to free speech to any negative religious stereotyping. This appeasement of the non-free Arab world is the beginning of the end. An erosion of free speech and your own First Amendment. This UN resolution is an absolute disgrace.

As Professor Jonathan Turley of the George Washington University yesterday so rightfully stated in the newspaper USA Today, and I quote: "Criticism of religion is the very measure of the guarantee of free speech - the literal sacred institution of society" - end of quote. That the weak leaders of my own continent Europe supported such a terrible resolution does not come as a surprise to me. But it's a sad thing that for the first time in history, the American administration has taken a leading role against our right to free speech.

Ladies and gentlemen, there is one Western country that has been forced to fight the forces of jihad for its values since the very first day of its existence: Israel, the canary in the coal mine. Let me say a few words about that wonderful country. I had the privilege of living in Israel. However, in Europe being pro-Israel makes you an endangered species. Israel is a beacon of light in an area - the Middle East - that is pitch black everywhere else. Israel is a Western democracy, while Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Egypt are medieval dictatorships.

The so-called 'Middle East conflict' is not about land at all. It is a conflict about ideologies; a battle between Islam and freedom. It is not about some land in Gaza or in Judea and Samaria. It is about Jihad. To Islam the whole of Israel is occupied territory. They see Tel Aviv and Haifa as settlements too.

I am very much in favor of a two-state solution. I mean Churchill's 1921 two-state solution, when Palestine was partitioned in a Jewish and an Arab part. Arab Palestine is now called Jordan, and therefore, there is already a Palestinian state. With eighty percent of the population having roots on the other side of the Jordan, there is no doubt Jordan is truly the state of Palestine.

Islam forces Israel to fight, and Israel is not just fighting for itself. Israel is fighting for all of us, for the entire West. Just like those brave American soldiers who landed in Sicily in 1943 and stormed the Normandy beaches in 1944, young Israeli men and women are fighting for our freedom, our civilization.

Ladies and gentlemen, Europe ought to fully back Israel to the hilt in its relentless fight against those that threaten it, whether it is Hezbollah, Hamas or a nuclear Iran. Also, because of its history, Europe certainly has the moral obligation to prevent at all cost another Holocaust against the Jewish people. But most important of all: Israel is fighting the jihad that is meant for all of us. So we all should defend Israel. We all are Israel.

Ladies and gentlemen, there is good news also! Europe might slowly be awakening. More and more people are fed up with cultural relativism and politicians ignoring the negative effects of mass-immigration and the creeping Islamization of Europe. During the European elections last June the worst cultural relativists, the socialists, lost nearly everywhere: In the Netherlands, in Belgium, in Germany, in Austria, in France, in Spain, in Italy and, perhaps best of all, in the UK.

But, my party, the Dutch Freedom Party was the winner in the recent elections for the European Parliament. Right now, in the polls, we even are number 1. If there would be elections in the Netherlands tomorrow, whether you like it or not, I could very well become the next Prime Minister of The Netherlands.

Ladies and gentlemen, time is running out, we need to act. As I already said, we need less Islam, and more freedom. We have to protect our most important right, our right to free speech. We have to protect our liberties. That is why I propose the following measures, measures to preserve our freedom:

First. We have to end all forms of cultural relativism. For this purpose we need an amendment to our Western constitutions stating that our cultural foundation is the Judeo Christian Humanistic culture, and not Islam.

Second. We have to stop the mass immigration from Muslim countries. Because more Islam means less freedom.

Third. I have a clear message to all Muslims in our societies: If you subscribe to our laws, our values and our constitutions you are very welcome to stay and we will help you to assimilate.
But, if you cross the red line and commit violent crimes or the implementation of shariah law and start practicing jihad, you are not welcome anymore, then we will expel you if possible the same day.

Fourth. We have to strengthen our laws regarding freedom of speech. In Europe we urgently need some kind of American First Amendment. And we have to resist UN-resolutions that intend to weaken our right of free speech in another attempt to appease the Islamic world.

Fifth, last but not least. We have to elect brave leaders. Real leaders. We enjoy the privilege of living in a democracy. Let us use that privilege by replacing weak leaders with heroes. Let us have fewer Neville Chamberlains and more Winston Churchills! In short, ladies and gentlemen, my main message of today is that we have to start fighting back. No defence, but offence. We have to fight back and demonstrate that millions of people are sick and tired of losing, of giving in, of appeasing. We must make clear that millions of freedom loving people are saying: enough is enough.

Ladies and gentlemen, I leave you with this: I will never give in nor give up. And we should never surrender nor compromise about freedom, the most important right we still have in our free western societies. We have to win, and I am confident: we will win! Thank you very much.
