거대한 연못 청계천
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> 청계천의 '복원'은 '복원'이란 말을 붙이기에는 많은 무리가 있다. 광화문 앞 세종로 동쪽에서 시작되는 '새' 청계천은 그 출발점이 명확한 최초의 하천이다. 원래는 인왕상과 수락산 자락의 수 많은 작은 개울들이 그 출발점이었을 것이다. 이미 엄청난 도시화가 진행된 상황에서 이루어진 복원이기 때문에 어쩔 수 없는 측면도 있겠지만 무엇보다 눈에 보이는 '성과'에 집착한 전시행정의 결과물일 가능성이 크다. 무엇보다 청계천 복원을 '복원'으로 볼 수 없는 까닭은 하천의 바닥에서 흙을 찾아볼 수 없다는 점이다. 하천은 지하수면의 기준이 되며 오염물질을 정화하는 자정 기능을 갖고 있다. 이런 기능을 수행하기 위해서는 하상이 지각과 소통을 자유롭게 할 수 있어야 하며 토양층을 갖고 있어야 한다. 지각 및 주변과의 소통이 자유로운 상태에서 발달한 토양층 위에서 수생 식물이 자라고 1차 생산자인 식물이 번성하면 자연스럽게 수서 동물이 서식할 수 있게 된다. </span><br><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> 그러나 청계천은 거대한 콘크리트 구조물로서 주변과는 완벽하게 차단되어 있다. 바닥과 주변이 시멘트로 채워진 물길은 하천이라고 보기 어렵다. 거대한 인공 연못일 뿐이다. 시멘트로 채워진 상류 부분에는 이미 바닥에 물 때가 끼기 시작했다. 식물에게는 영양물질이 될 수 있지만 생태계가 형성되지 않은 상태에서는 인위적으로 제거해야 하는 '때'일 뿐이다.</span><br><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> 그런데 이건 또 뭔가? 연말을 맞아 청계천이 '꽃단장'을 하였다. 순전히 외국 기술(?)에 의존한다는 이 예술작품은 청계천에 인공의 냄새를 더욱 물씬 풍기게 해준다. 하천 옆 산책로에서 보면 어쩌면 아름답게 보일지도 모를 이 구조물은 하천 양쪽 도로에서 보면 정말 가관이다. 뒷쪽에서 구조물을 지지하고 있는 철사며, 각목이 그대로 드러나 있는 것은 눈 가리고 아웅도 이만저만이 아니다. 게다가 이 모양은 또 무언가? 국적 불명의 문양들은 다른 나라의 성, 또는 건축물들에서 따 온 것이 분명하다. </span><br><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> 자연은 원래 모습 그대로일 때 가장 아름답다. 부득이 인공을 가할수 밖에 없다면 그것을 최소화 해야만 한다. 물론 개입의 정도와 방법도 인간의 입장이 아닌 자연의 입장에서 바라 보아야 한다. 오토바이의 천국 하노이

카르(kar, 圈谷)
