첫 휴가 마지막 날~!!

첫 휴가의 마지막 날..

마지막 날 그리고.. 마지막 날 전 밤은.. 거의

정리하고.. 준비하느랴.. 시간을 다 쓴 것같다.ㅎ

휴... 5박 6일..

길었나?ㅎ

그럭저럭..

다시 생각해 보면.. 꿈과 같은 시간들도 있었고..

정말 영원히 기억될 것 같은 시간도 있었고..

눈 깜짝할세.. 지나친 시간도 있었다.

휴... 다음 휴가?

아직 별로..

그냥.. 정말 몇 일 안되는 시간 이였지만..

정말.. 많은 생각을 하게 하는 시간들이기도 했다.

정말 시간이라는 건.. 가만히 멈춰 있는게 아니라.. 매일 매일 지나가고 있는 것이라는거..

시간은 멈추려고 해도.. 멈 출 수 없고..

정말 한 번 지나간 시간은.. 다시는 돌아 오지 않는다.

당연한 사실이.. 이제야 크게 와닿는 건 왜 일까?

이 시간이 너무 소중했기 때문에?

사실 소중한 시간, 소중하지 않은 시간.. 이런건 없는데... 다 똑같은 시간일 뿐인데..ㅎ

정말 다 똑같은 시간이다..

어 쨋든..

이제 휴가 끝이다.ㅎ

1시간 후면.. 부대에 복귀해 있을 것이다.

그럼.. 다시 예전 사람들과 함께 할 것이다.

너무.. 저 멀리 있는 사람들만 생각하지 말고..

내 바로 앞에 있는 사람들과도.. 같이 하는 건 어떨까?ㅎ

군대 가기 하루 전날 밤.

내일은 군대간다.ㅎ

엄밀히 말하면 오늘 ㅡ.ㅡ..

근데 기분이 안좋은 이유는..

할일 너무 미뤘다가 하려니.. 너무 많아서..

부모님의 끝임 없는 잔소리..

그냥 쫌 여러가지로 짜증 나는 일이 있었다.

지금은.. 좀 나아진 상태라고나 할까나.ㅎ

그래도 할일은 아직 많다. 이거저거 저거 이거 휴..

그리고 저장할 것들도 많고..

휴.. 어째 군대가면 더 바빠질 것 같다.

머.. 그래도 좋은 건..ㅎ

마지막까지 정말 많은 친구들을 만나면서..

다시 한번 친구관계에 대해서 생각하게 하고..

나의 꿈에대해서 다시 한번.. 군대에 대해서..

다시 고민하게 되는게.. 너무 좋은 것 같다.

오늘은 정말 친한친구와도^^, 깊은 대활 나누고..

하지만.. 여전히 빡센건.. 가족관계..

밖에선 표정관리라든지 하지만, 집에선..

여러가지로.. 짜증나느게 많다.

신경쓸려고 하지만.. 잘 안되는 것 같다.

머 이런 저런.. 일들을 정리하며.. 군대에 간다.

가기전부터.. 약간 지친 느낌..

머 오늘 농담처럼 나왔지만.. 마치.. 1년 11개월 수련회를 가는 느낌..ㅋㅋ

대략.. 680박 681일 정도 되려나..ㅎ

머 단체활동에 익숙해져 있어서.. 별 걱정은 없다.

군대든 누구나 다 가는 곳이니까.. 나의 모난 성격도 동글게 할 수 있을 듯 기대를 해본다.ㅋㅋ

군대 가기전 제일 두려워던건, 내가 사랑하는 사람들이 기억속에서 사라지는 거 였는데.. 나의 기억이던.. 그 사람의 기억이던..

지금은 그런 걱정은 별로 없다. 나도 더 기억하려고 하고, 내 친구들도 다 기억하고 있으니.ㅎ

휴.. 머 이 블로그는 계속 열어둘 생각이다. 머.. 요즘들어 컴퓨터 사용도 자유스러워졌다고 하니.. 가서 쓸일이 자주 있겠지 머.ㅎ

누구나 다 가는 군대라 생각하니.. 마음이 많이 편하다.^^

군대가기 2일 전~..<공모전의 추억>

2박 3일 간의 공모전..

과연 가는게 낳았을까.. 나의 주변 사람들은 특히 남자들은 말렸다.

"형 도망가요." - 양권일

이 말에 순간적으로 동해 버렸다.

그 때 갑자기 도망갈까 하는 생각도 해봤고..

뭐.. 암튼 나 스스로도, 쉽게 납득하고 집중하기 힘들었고, 그래서 계속 난현이 탓을 했고.ㅎ

아무튼 그래도 계속 그자리에 있었던건..

뭐.. 친한 친구들이 있어서도 있지만..

책임감 때문이였던 것 같다.

성화통일운동 때, 내가 주도적으로 진행을 해 왔고, 그 것이 제대로 마무리가 되지 않은 상태에서 그 것을 마쳤기 때문에..

머 위에서 푸쉬가 없으니까.. 더 놓아버리긴 했지만..

그래서.. 어쨋든 준비를 했었고.. 그렇게 했다.ㅎ

돌아서서 생각해 보면.. 그 때 처럼.. 뭔가 내가 하기 싫은데.. 끌려서 했던건.. 오랜만이면서도..

정말 흥미로운 경험이었다. 아무리 하기 싫은거라도.. 마음을 돌려서 하고 싶은 마음을 만들곤 했었는데..

그 땐.. 정말 모든게 귀찮았다. 그냥 푹 쉬고 싶고, 놀고 싶은데.. 마지막까지. .그렇게 해야 하는게..

무엇보다 가족들과 시간을 못 보내는 단게 아쉬웠고..

'난 내가 내일 지구가 멸망한다 해도, 사과나무 한 그루를 심겠다.'

이 말이 강하게 와닿았다. 처음 들었을 땐.. 아 그렇구나 했는데..

'난 군대가 일주일 밖에 안 남았어도, 공모전에 나가겟다.'

이런 상황이 되니... 정말 모든 것이 부질없어 보이고.. 의미 없어 보였다.

그럼 뭐해 군대가는데.. ㅡ.ㅜ...

그걸 가까스로 극복하고 주인의식을 갖은 건, 그 전 날. 6시 쯤이던가..

그 때의 동기를 생각해보면..

1. 도전하겠다는 마음.

2. 난현이를 도와주고 싶은 마음.

3. 남아지는 일을 하고 싶다는 마음.

이런 마음이였다. 그 때 상황을 생각해 보면.. 그 상황에서 필요했던 건.

1. English Speaking, Understanding, Interpreting, Writing

모든 영어에 대한 능력들이 필요했고, <공모전은 95% 영어로 진행�다.>

2. 발표 준비

발표자가 나였다. ㅡ.ㅡ... 영어로 발표해야 했기에..

3. 발표 자료 준비

큰 흐름은 내가 짜고, 같이 준비했다.

4. 영상제작.

그 중 영상을 맡은 사람이 나.

5. 팀워크, 활력

이건 가진이와 난현이

암튼 그런 상황이었기에.. 내가 빠지면 안되는 상황 ㅡ.ㅡ... 같이 시작한 사람이였고..

암튼 여러가지 이유로.. 참여하게 되었고..

참여했다.

뭐.. 하면서, 지금 생각해 보면 너무너무너무 좋았지만 ... 정말 그 땐..ㅎㅎ

같은 방 �던 베트남 사람들 정말 활발하고 재미있는 사람들 이였고,

그 밖에도 많은 외국사람들이랑 많이 만나고, 이야기 할 기회가 있었다.

정말 아쉽게도.. 같이 계속 참여하진 못했다.<치과랑 병원이랑>

제일 힘들었을 땐.. 전날 거의 1시간 밖에 안자면서, 발표 준비하는거? 다 영어로 해야 했고,

마지막까지 계속 수정을 해야 했어서, 정말 쉽진 않았다. 그래서 마지막에.. 조금 화도 냈었고..

정말 마지막에.. 남은 게... 나 밖에 할 수 없는게 많아서... 좀 힘들었던 것 같다.<그래서 숙영이의 도움도 정말 컸다.>

평소에 준비해 놓았던게.. 이렇게 쓰일줄이야..

암튼 긴장의 순간이였던 발표!!!

긴장되는 마음, 조금 걱정되는 마음으로.. 발표하는 곳에 들어섰고.. 첫번 째 발표가 진행되었다.

그리고.. 마음이 놓였다.

"ㅋ 뭐야.. 저정도만 하면 되는거야.ㅎ?"

발표 준비한 내용은 괸찮았다. 다만 영어로 대충했다는거?ㅋ 솔직히 별로였고.ㅋㅋ

사회자도 그 모습보고 한마디 했다.ㅋㅋ

그 때부터 자신감이 생겨서, 좀 마음을 놓고 다른팀이 진행하는 것을 봤었고, 정말 다양한 나라에서 온

다양한 사람들이, 다양한 방식으로 역사와 평화에 대해서 이야기를 했다.

우리가 발표하기 전에.. 발표했던 팀 들 중에서는..

야스꾸니신사에 대한 내용<한국인>, 폭력과 평화에 대한 내용<필리핀>(GPF 몰랐다 ㅡ.ㅡ..ㅋ), 대마도에 있었던 행사를 놓고 한일 관계에 대해

발표했던 팀<일본>, 중국과 여러나라와의 관계를 발표한 팀<중국>, 일본음식으로본 세계화<일본>(다 미인이였던.ㅋ 우리 바로 전 팀)

이 있었다. 정말 다양한 내용들이 나왔고.. 머.. 사실 생각보다.. 못했다. 한국팀은.ㅋ 정말.. 대학생이 생각할 수 있었던.. 창의적이고 엽기적인 발표도 있었고,

지루하다 싶은 발표도 있었다.

그리고 우리 차례..

준비하면서 약간은 싸늘해져 있던 분위기를.. 난현이는 계속 허물고.. 화이팅을 불어넣어 주었고,

그리고 우리 차례가 되었다. 난 앞에 나가서, 준비를 하고 발표가 시작되었다. 처음에 약간 어색하게 우리 소개를 하고.

그리고 준비했던 대로 3가지에 대해 발표 했다.

발표 주제는 남북통일과 풀어본 북한 인권

첫번 째 주제 역사<외국인이 많은 관계로 설명했다.>

두번 째 주제 평화<평화에 대한 이해>

세번 째 주제 우리의 실천

난 2가지 영어를 구사하며(내가 어설프게 번역한 것과, 아버지에게 부탁해서 한 네이티브의 번역),

발표 주제를 놓고 이야기를 했다.

내가 발표해서 그렇게 느끼는 건진 모르겠지만..

분위기는 어느때보다 더 숙연해져 있었고, 더 많이 집중을 하였다.

난 영어를 안틀릴려고 대본 대로 또박또박 읽고 또, 대본이 짤린 부분은 ㅡ.ㅡ.. 그 때 그 때, 영어를 구사해서 진행을 했다.

ucc를 보여주고, 가화의 사진슬라이드가 끝난 이후, 마지막 "성화"라고 외치기 까지

심사위원들은, 처음엔 팔장끼고 의자에 기대서 우릴 지켜 봤지만..

나중엔 고개를 끄덕이고, 좀더 집중하는 자세로 우리의 발표를 지켜봤다.

그렇게 우리의 발표가 끝나게 되었다.

끝나고 드는 마음은..

'집에 가고 싶다..'

그냥 모든 긴장이 다 풀리면서 쉬고 싶었다.ㅎㅎ

뭐.. 결과는 별로 기댄 안한다.

YMCA에서 주최하고, 참가자의 70% 이상의 YMCA를 통해 온 사람이다.

우리에게 좋은 점수를 주긴 힘들 것 같았다.

다른 훌룡한 팀도 많았고.. 암튼

그리고.. 나서.. 일본팀과 같이 구경을 하고,

같이 준비했던 친구들과 이별을 하고

치과로 갔다. 집에 갔다.ㅎ

2번 째, 받는 이별식?ㅎㅎ

1번 짼, 익산에서..ㅎ 그 때, 날 성화들이 그래도 많이 좋아했구나.. 하는걸 느꼈고.

2번 짼, 이 때ㅎ 내가 그리도 사랑을 받고 있었구나.?ㅎ

나중에 들으니... 그 때 해어지고 나서, 난 담담히.. 서울 갈길을 찾고 있을 때..

울었다고 한다.

마지막에 떠날 때, 같이 파이팅 해주고.. 끝까지 잘 챙겨줬던 친구들..

덕분에 난 정말 좋은 추억을 가지고 군대를 간다.^^

중국과 티벳과의 관계

티벳 문제를 둘러싼 중국과 서양 언론의 입장은 반대인 것처럼 보이지만, 보다 넓은 시각에서 보면 상극이라기보다 맞닿는 점이 더 많다. 자본주의를 향한 중국의 폭주에 대해 근본적인 문제를 제기하는 것이 아니라 그 방향과 속도에 대해서 의견을 달리 할 뿐이다. 티벳과 올림픽에 대한 중국 공산당 그리고 비분강개하고 잇는 '중국 인민'의 주장은 대략 다음과 같이 요약할 수 잇을 것이다.

티벳은 중국의 영토다. 이에 관해서는 분쟁의 여지가 없다.중국은 다민족으로 이루어진 하나의 국가이며 어떠한 분열주의적인 작태도 용납할 수 없다.
달라이 라마는 분열을 책동하는 분열주의자이며 대화의 대상이 아니다 (인터넷에서는 달라이 라마를 히틀러라고 묘사하는 주장을 종종 만날 수 잇다.)
티벳은 중국의 원조를 통해 경제 발전을 이루고 잇고, 불만 세력은 극히 일부에 불과하며, 대부분의 티벳 주민은 아무런 문제없이 잘 지내고 잇다.
영토의 문제는 내정의 문제이므로 서양 세력이 간섭하는 것은 주권 침해다.
올림픽 보이콧 등 올림픽을 정치화하려는 시도에 반대하며, 올림픽은 중국의 발전과 진보를 전세계에서 인정받고 중국의 자부심을 확인하는 계기다.
중국 공산당이 서양의 기준에서 맞는 정치적 자유와 인권과 민주주의를 보장하고 잇지는 않지만 (따라서 '중국 인민'의 입장에서 보면 완전히 만족하지는 않지만), 그렇다고 해서 중국이 완전히 통제된 사회는 아니며 점진적인 정치적 발전을 이루어 가고 잇다.
중국은 당의 주도로 급속한 (자본주의적) 경제 발전을 성공적으로 이루어가고 잇으며, 세계 경제에 큰 기여를 하고 잇다 (따라서 그에 걸맞게 존중받아야 한다).

1, 2, 3, 4와 같은 얘기는 말도 안되는 얘기로 보이지만, '사실' 그 자체보다 중요한 것은 대다수의 중국 인민들은 이에 대해 추호의 의심도 없어 보인다는 사실이다. 오히려 이에 반해서 얘기하는 것이 자신의 존엄을 침해하는 것이라고 생각하는 것 같다. 고구려가 지배하던 만주가 사실은 한민족의 땅이고 중국이 동북공정을 통해 역사를 조작하고 잇다는 사실에 대해 비분강개하는 다수의 한국 국민의 태도와 (똑같다고 말할 수는 없지만) 심연의 차이가 잇는 것은 아닌 것 같다. 내 말은 이런 식의 사고 방식을 반드시 조작이라든가 사상 통제라든가 세뇌 같은 식으로 해석할 필요는 없다는 것이다. 이런 사고 방식을 떠받치는 역사적 상상, 국민적 열망, 실제적인 물적 관계의 변화와 같은 것을 제대로 파악하지 않으면, 저와 같은 사고 방식과 동일한 사고 방식으로 대응하기 십상이다.

그래서 현재의 중국을 파악하기 위해서는, 5, 6, 7에서 보듯 중국의 (사회 관계의) 변화와 (자본주의적) 발전과 진보의 현상황이 어떻게 국민적 자부심으로 응집하는지에 대한 인식이 필요하다. 사실 한국의 과거와 현재를 생각해보면 이를 이해하기는 그리 어렵지 않다. 서울 올림픽에 대한 기대, 과거나 현재나 급속한 경제 발전을 무엇보다도 우선시하는 인식, 황우석이나 디워 같은 열광에서 보듯 이른바 국익과 국민적 자부심을 동일시하는 태도 등등. 다시 말해서 중국 인민은 현재의 중국의 발전과 진보에 대해 무한한 자부심을 가지고 잇으며, 과거의 백여년 간의 상처를 치유하고 다시 진정한 강대국의 자리에 올라섯음을 확인하고자 하는 역사적 기로에 서 잇다고 인식하고 잇다. 상식적 인식과는 반대로 중국 공산당이 대중을 통제하는 것이 아니라, 이와 같은 국민적 열망이 너무 높은 나머지 중국 공산당은 더욱 강력히 대응하라는 대중적 요구와 압력에 놓인다 (독도 문제에 소극 대처한다고 비난하는 한국 대중의 반응을 생각하면 이해하기 쉽다). 공산당은 이런 국민적 열망을 절정한 수준에서 유지하도록 하는 것이 지상 과제다 (인터넷에 대한 통제는 외국의 인터넷에 대한 검열뿐 아니라 자국내 민족주의의 과도한 분출에 대한 통제로 이해해야 할 것이다).

5, 6, 7과 같은 가치와 사고 방식이 바탕이 되어, 1, 2, 3, 4와 같이 티벳에 대해 일관되게 잔인하고 오만한 태도를 견지할 수 잇는 것이다.

서양 (몇몇 서양 정권과 대다수의 서양 언론)의 반응도 이러한 관점에서 이해할 수 잇다. 먼저 1, 2, 3, 4와 같은 문제에 직접적으로 문제를 제기하는 자유주의적 입장. 중국에 대해 '보편적인' (즉 서양적인) 인권과 민주주의의 가치를 들이대는 것이다. 이런 입장에 깔려잇는 가정은 중국이 이러한 보편적 가치를 받아들일 때만 세계 자본주의의 진정한 일원으로 인정할 수 잇다는 것이다. 중국 상품에 대한 보이콧과 같은 얘기는 이런 가정에서 제기되는 것이다. 이런 입장에 대해 중국 정부와 인민의 반응은 예상할 수 잇는 것처럼 강력한 반발이다. 중국이 오만하듯이 이런 입장도 중국에게는 오만하고 무례하게 받아들여질 수밖에 없다. 이 입장이 오만한 이유는 5, 6, 7과 같은 맥락을 전혀 이해하지 못하거나 무시하기 때문이다.

보다 '세련된' 반응들도 잇다. 위와 같은 '오만한' 태도로 몰아세우는 것은 사태를 해결하는데 별로 도움이 되지 않는다. 오히려 보다 '현실적'으로 문제에 접근해야 한다는 입장. 즉 1, 2, 3, 4와 같은 식으로 접근하는 것은 반발만 부를 뿐 현실적으로 득이 되는 것이 전혀 없다. 오히려 '현실'을 인정하고 해결 가능한 방식으로 접근을 제시한다. 중국을 지구 자본주의의 강자로 인정하고 보다 온건한 변화가 가능하도록 '조용히' 설득해야 한다는 입장이다. 이런 입장에 깔려잇는 가정은 중국과의 비즈니스가 우선이며 그런 비즈니스가 지속적으로 유지되고 확장되는 것을 바탕으로 중국의 변화를 유도할 수 잇다. 자본주의적 발전에 대한 중국의 자부심은 지구 자본주의로 중국이 점점 통합될 수 잇는 동력이지 그 반대가 아니다. 이런 입장은 보다 교묘하지만 적어도 5, 6, 7과 같은 맥락을 이해한다는 점에서 훨씬 현실을 제대로 파악하고 잇다. 기사 몇개를 보도록 하자.

먼저 뉴욕타임스의 한 칼럼은 주로 중국의 1, 2, 3, 4의 측면에 대해 비판하고 잇다. 그러면서 중국 공산당의 알방 통행 대신 다원성을 수용할 수 잇도록 정치 체제의 개혁을 주문하고 잇다.

A Passage to Tibet

Remember how we had to learn about the Shia, the Sunnis, the Kurds and all the smaller agents of Iraqi fragmentation? Over the next four months, until the Beijing Olympics open, the world is going to get a crash course in China’s various ethnic and religious minority groups and their resentments.

Violent stirrings in Tibet are just the beginning. With the world as stage, the Uighur Muslims of the northwestern Xinjiang region, the outlawed Falun Gong spiritual movement, Mongols and Kazakhs and whoever else wants his moment in the sun will have a dream opportunity to rail.

I hope violence is contained, and the Chinese authorities show flexibility, but I’m not optimistic after a big demonstration in London on Sunday.

If a Tibetan monk grabs the Olympic torch in San Francisco this week and immolates himself, nobody should be astonished. If the 19th anniversary on June 4 of the Tiananmen Square crackdown passes quietly, everyone should be surprised.

Playing in the major leagues is no breeze. That’s where China is after the remarkable transformation that led to the hosting of the Olympics. No talk of “peaceful rise,” “harmony,” “multilateralism” - self-effacing Chinese buzzwords all - can hide that a global power must make tough calls, decide what it represents, and be judged.

China can no longer pretend to be the unobtrusive power par excellence, in contrast to American intrusiveness. In Burma and beyond, that just won’t wash.

President George W. Bush has called President Hu Jintao twice since the troubles began to urge him to reach out to the Dalai Lama, stop vilifying him, establish a dialogue, and open Tibet to foreign journalists.

But Christopher Hill, the assistant secretary of state for East Asia, who advised the president on these calls, told me Bush’s laudable pleas had fallen on deaf ears. “I don’t really expect anything good over the next few months,” he said.

Hu, who crushed protests in Tibet as party chief there in 1989, typifies the national consensus that China has delivered Tibetans from feudalism, ushering them toward modernity with infrastructure and investment. Tibet, in this view, should be grateful, and the region’s obstinate “splittists” crushed.

At the Williamsburg Conference here, an annual high-level get-together on Asian themes, I did not hear one word from Chinese delegates that deviated from the view that outside agitators have stirred up the Tibet protests, that foreign media are mendacious or malevolent, that lectures on human rights are unacceptable, and that no government can tolerate a separatist movement.

In short, I heard the typical conspiracy theories of any one-party state unable to reach beyond the logic dictated by its own need for control.

“There was an order for disruption,” said Wu Jianmin, the president of the China Foreign Affairs University. “But it would be a terrible mistake to politicize the Olympics. Everyone will be hurt. The people of Tibet were serfs and have made huge progress.”

I don’t dispute the feudal aspects of Tibetan society. I’d be surprised if there were not seditious plans hatched outside Tibet. But the Chinese authorities need to face some greater truths.

These include the facts that a half-century of repression has not worked; that the Dalai Lama is the most moderate Tibetan interlocutor they will find; that he has called for autonomy but not independence; and that he is a revered global figure.

Rather than decry foreign plots, China should also recognize that the mass arrival of Han Chinese has fed legitimate Tibetan fears of cultural extinction, and that a stop-go approach to allowing foreign journalists into Tibet is ham-fisted.

For a long time the core question about China has been whether a dictatorship with an open market economy can resist its internal contradictions. The core question now is how you federalize a diverse society under one-party control.

Or, as Raja Mahan, an Indian political scientist, put it to me: “In a country that does not separate party and state, how do you create the space for different peoples to express themselves?”

China’s Communist party leadership has proved remarkably adept at adjusting to the country’s explosive growth. But in crisis it is not nimble. The next few months will present a number of crises that I see, at root, as challenges to the fashionable authoritarian-capitalist model.

Bush is right to attend the Olympic opening ceremony. Boycotting it would only accentuate old Chinese feelings of victimization. That’s good for nobody. But China needs to get over the repressive reflexes of the one-party state, talk to the Dalai Lama, and understand that harmony in rigidity is impossible.

A multi-ethnic dictatorship is of its essence brittle; it will be more so if it does not bend at its Tibetan edge.

The former silk road oasis of Hetian perches on the edge of China's Taklimakan Desert, a gravelly wasteland of scrub and rock. The city is far even for Chinese—it would be five time zones away from Beijing, if the regime allowed more than one official time in China—but news travels. Last week word emerged of a March 23 protest among Hetian's Muslim Uighur population, long resentful of Han Chinese domination. Yet when reached by phone, four local officials curtly denied reports of a protest, arrests or a curfew. "You should not spread rumors! It's been peaceful here!" said one. Others rudely declared, "No demonstrations!" or hung up. This was all the more puzzling given that the city-government Web site for Hetian (the Uighurs call it Khotan) and another official Web site stated that an incident had taken place on market day, when as many as 100,000 people converge on the city's fabled bazaar. A "tiny number" of people representing the forces of "separatism, terrorism and extremism" unfurled a "splittist" banner in the bazaar, one site said. It went on to declare that police had responded, the incident was handled "according to law" and nobody was hurt.

Is that really such a difficult message to get straight? In recent weeks China has been acting less like a budding superpower than a tin-pot dictatorship—petulant, preachy, defiant. Global audiences have seen images of truncheon-wielding riot police, sent to Lhasa and other Tibetan areas to quell anti-Beijing protests that began on March 10. Chinese officials talk of dark plots, re-education programs, Western media "bias." Each new clampdown—and the shrill agitprop that accompanies it—seems guaranteed to antagonize not only China's restive Tibetan and Uighur minorities but also the nations scheduled to compete at the Olympic Games in Beijing this August. But those aren't the audiences Beijing cares most about pleasing. "A government official I met actually referred to a 'crisis' of [international] public opinion," says John Kamm, a well-connected former businessman who now lobbies for the release of Chinese prisoners of conscience. Even so, he adds, "I don't see any sign the government is going to make concessions."

This has long been Beijing's trade-off: to keep a majority of Chinese loyal, at times by pandering to their most xenophobic prejudices, at the risk of offending the rest of the world. If China craves international legitimacy, the regime fears the nationalist ire of the people even more. The question is whether the old pattern can survive this fraught Olympic year. For at least a year, Darfur activists have been calling this summer's Games "the genocide Olympics," hoping to shame Beijing into helping to stop the killing in western Sudan. Now the Games have set off a string of protests around the world. Demonstrators marred the lighting of the Olympic torch in Greece, and Uighur activists tried to disrupt its route in Turkey last week. Plans to run the flame up Mount Everest in May and through Lhasa in June are sure to provoke outbursts.

Few foreign dignitaries have committed to boycotting the opening ceremonies, and a consumer backlash against Olympic sponsors has not materialized yet. But with hundreds of millions of dollars invested in the Games, companies have reason to worry. "They're facing serious risks to their reputations," says one public-relations consultant working in Beijing, who requested anonymity to avoid retaliation against his firm and its high-profile clients. Several big sponsors, including Coca-Cola, GE and UPS, are trying to ward off criticism by pointing to aid pledges they've made to help refugees in Darfur—more than $5 million in Coke's case.

This summer's Games were meant as a graduation ceremony for China's ascension to superpower status. Beijing is in danger of flunking. "China now finds itself under pressure to manage these internal issues, such as ethnic unrest, in a way that doesn't scandalize people [abroad]. That's a new expectation," says the PR consultant. He acknowledges that such issues would be growing in importance even without the Games but says, "What the Olympics does is turbocharge the attention."

When Beijing was awarded the Games back in 2001, the hope was that their staging would push China to open up. In an April 2 letter to the Free Tibet Campaign, a copy of which was obtained by NEWSWEEK, Coca-Cola CEO E. Neville Isdell used the same argument to defend his company's sponsorship of the torch relay: "We believe ... using the event to put political pressure on China would erode the ability of the Olympic Games to make a contribution to lasting change in China and its relationship with the rest of the world."

But precisely because Beijing is determined to hold a picture-perfect Olympics, the government has declared war on anyone who might pose a problem. The targets are not all as distant as Uighurs and Tibetans; last week a Beijing court sentenced 34-year-old activist Hu Jia to three and a half years in prison on charges of "inciting subversion of state power." If anything, the barring of foreign observers and media from Hu's trial suggests legal proceedings are becoming even "less transparent and more opaque" than before, says Kamm. His San Francisco-based Dui Hua Foundation anticipates that the number of political prisoners in China this year will exceed last year's count (742) because of an expected influx of Tibetan inmates and cyberdissidents.

Each new protest inspires others. Trouble broke out in Lhasa on March 10, the anniversary of a failed 1959 Tibetan revolt, and the unrest worsened when authorities began locking down the city's monasteries. Even after troops quelled the violence in the Tibetan capital, eruptions continued in surrounding provinces until at least April 3. Exiled Uighur activist Rebiya Kadeer says members of her ethnic group in the far western province of Xinjiang were inspired by the Tibetans—and angered by a pre-emptive curfew that was imposed to keep Uighurs from repeating the Lhasa blowup. She claims that up to 1,000 women were involved in the Hetian protest, demanding the lifting of a ban on wearing headscarves.

Before Tibet erupted, Beijing was doing a comparatively smooth job of handling international criticism. The primary issue for Olympic protests was China's refusal to lean harder on its friends in Khartoum for an end to Sudan's government-backed ethnic cleansing in Darfur. When Steven Spielberg quit as a creative adviser to the Games in February over the Darfur issue, Beijing handled the decision with relative equanimity. As recently as March 7 the government made its special envoy to Darfur available for a meeting with Olympic sponsors.

But the question of Tibet, or indeed any of China's restive minority regions, touches upon Beijing's worst fears of national dissolution. At a March 2 concert in Shanghai, Icelandic singer Björk startled her audience by ending her last song, "Declare Independence," with shouts of "Tibet! Tibet!" After that incident, Chinese apparatchiks "started freaking out," says one Beijing-based diplomat, who was not cleared to speak on the record. All sorts of creative projects involving foreigners suddenly had to be approved by China's cabinet.

Since the Lhasa protests, foreign ambassadors in Beijing have been summoned to the Foreign Ministry at all hours—even on Easter Sunday. They've been lectured on China's version of events; shown a lengthy video on a March 14 "beating, looting, smashing and burning incident"; berated when their government leaders back home have mentioned the possibility of an Olympic boycott, and pressured to make public statements of support for China's "restrained" response to the Tibetan riots. India's ambassador, Nirupama Rao, had to throw on her clothes, find an embassy driver and trundle over to the Foreign Ministry at 2 o'clock one morning to hear Chinese security concerns after Tibetan protesters breached the wall at the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi. (Chinese officials insisted Rao was treated "very respectably.") At one point Arab League ambassadors were summoned and asked to endorse the Tibet crackdown "as our friends in Sudan have done." "Now we see the behavior of China as a superpower," says one ambassador who'd been called in a handful of times in as many days. "We see there's a price to be paid for those who signed all those big Chinese contracts or accepted Beijing's economic aid."

Some of this is plain clumsiness. But the regime also knows that acting tough helps it with young Chinese, whose passions are unpredictable. The information available to most members of this generation has been severely limited by censorship and sophisticated cyberpolicing. They know little about the Dalai Lama, who fled Lhasa in 1959 after the failed revolt—and thus fully believe Beijing's longtime portrayal of him as a nefarious "splittist." "A lot of Chinese don't understand why people in the West are critical of China," says Rebecca MacKinnon, a Hong Kong-based expert on China's Internet culture. "They think, 'Why are Tibetans being so ungrateful?' " When it comes to any issue involving Chinese territory, this generation of Chinese pushes the government to stand up to foreign powers and activists, to defend the country's honor.

China's reaction to the unrest has also tapped into an ugly strain of racism. To many Han Chinese, who have seen their prospects improve immeasurably over the past 30 years, disgruntled minorities like the Tibetans seem like backward malcontents. A Tibetan woman who sells traditional earrings and trinkets in a Beijing subway station says no one buys her jewelry any longer because no Han "wants to be mistaken for a Tibetan ... No one wants to be seen [even] speaking with Tibetans." She says Chinese commuters have cursed her every day since the protests turned bloody. She and her friends didn't dare venture outdoors for several days after March 14. "We heard [Chinese] were throwing stones and beer bottles at our women and trying to beat our children," says the vendor, who requested anonymity because she lives in Beijing illegally.

There are signs that at least some Chinese officials recognize that the regime is painting itself into a corner with its behavior. Domestic media have begun to devote more emphasis to the message that both Tibetans and Chinese suffered from the Lhasa riots, instead of focusing exclusively on Han Chinese victims. Minders who brought a group of foreign diplomats to Lhasa at the end of March emphasized the same theme. Ditch the tatty flag of nationalism

When it took on the games, China promised heroic efforts for change. But the torch debacle has left it snarling in a corner

There is never any shortage of public relations advisers willing to take on unpromising clients, especially those with deep pockets. Reports that the Chinese government has called for bids from foreign PR companies indicate that Beijing, at some level, understands that its own attempts to mould world opinion have tanked. But if the exercise is to have any success, the client does, occasionally, need to take the advice. It would not be an easy account to manage.

On the day that the Olympic torch - or, as Beijing calls it, "the sacred flame" - went into hiding in a San Francisco warehouse, Beijing's second in command in Tibet, Qiangba Puncog, held a press conference. He was talking against the background of another news management failure: the appearance of a group of monks at the lovely and historic Labrang monastery in Gansu, bearing a Tibetan flag to remind a visiting press party that this was another propaganda exercise.

Puncog joined the Communist party in the cultural revolution, and his political attitudes do not seem to have progressed much. He epitomises the policies that have helped to generate this perfect storm of bad publicity for China. Of his fellow Tibetans he observed, in a phrase that would not have shamed a recalcitrant 19th-century imperialist, "I believe Tibetans are a good, simple people who know how to be grateful". And in the event of any of these humble, grateful people disrupting the torch relay through Tibet, he promised: "They will be dealt with severely." As western political leaders glumly contemplated their August diaries, conscious that there were no good options, Beijing's putative public relations consultants must have been reaching for the hemlock.

Since the unrest in Tibet began, everything Beijing has done and said has reinforced its critics' case. The foreign press is accused, in strident terms, of lying, while its capacity to report directly is cut off by Beijing. Behind a security cordon, overwhelming force has been brought to bear. Precisely how it is being used we do not know, but when an authority with a violent past reaches for a stick and slams the door shut, there is little reason to be sanguine.

As the trouble spread last month to the Tibetan areas of Gansu, Sichuan and Qinghai, convoys of trucks carrying military police fanned out across the Tibetan plateau. The faces in the trucks looked young, but the fixed bayonets leaning against the tailboards spoke of their seriousness of purpose.

No foreign visitor could testify directly to the result because the provincial foreign affairs bureaux were already at work, combing through the hotels for foreigners who were to be swept back to the cities, where they would be blind to further trouble or reprisals. Chinese migrants sat in flyblown restaurants watching the official story on television, scenes of riot on a loop, played and replayed, cursing Tibetans for what viewers had been told was unprovoked violence against hardworking Chinese migrants. Tibetans kept their distance, wary of revenge attacks.

The story of China in the past month is tragic on many levels. Prepared to fling open the doors to show off its best furniture and fashionable new clothes, official China is snarling in a corner instead, its confident image shredded by the real-time street theatre of London, Paris and San Francisco.

The issue is no longer confined to Tibet. Now it is about the nature of China's rise, and a leadership capable of misreading the reactions of others so catastrophically. It is revealed as a regime that clings to symbolic politics, without realising that symbols carry different messages and, in the wider world, nobody can monopolise how they are read. What is now at risk is not only the success of the Olympics, but the direction of Chinese politics. This matters to us all, so here, at no charge and with respect, are some suggestions.

Firstly, stop digging. The torch relay was introduced at the 1936 Berlin Olympics as a triumphalist exercise. Proposing to run the longest relay ever, and including Taiwan and Tibet, was bound to open Beijing to the charge of exploiting an international sporting symbol for a nationalist agenda. At this point, the more security the torch needs, the more negative the message.

Secondly, get some honest advice and listen to it. In intolerant, top-down systems, subordinates tell the boss what they think he wants to hear. By the time the boss discovers the deception, the damage has been done. It may be painful to admit errors in public, but it would have a positive effect. In grown-up systems, the humbling of politicians is something in which the people can take pride, rather than feel as a national humiliation.

Thirdly, it's time to take the initiative back, sit down for talks with the Dalai Lama and take a hard look at China's record in Tibet. To insist that the Dalai Lama is single-handedly responsible for the failure of China's policies in Tibet just makes Beijing look ridiculous internationally and does nothing to resolve the crisis. In the long run the choice is between more decades of repression and rebellion, and the chance of a constructive settlement that offers long-term stability for China and cultural survival for Tibet. For the past 50 years Chinese policy in Tibet has provoked intermittent uprisings. It is time to draw the right lessons.

When China signed up for the Olympics, it promised to improve human rights and press freedom, as well as to clean up the air and provide impeccable organisation. There have been heroic efforts on air quality, and nobody doubts the logistics or the shining new venues. But on human rights Beijing has fallen back on repression and has thrown away the chance to argue, with justice, that China has made considerable progress in building a legal state, in personal freedoms and in creating prosperity. Now those achievements have been sidelined by a torch that cannot venture on to the streets without an armed escort.

There is still a choice to be made, and a change of policy is by far the best decision. So far, Beijing has reached for the tattered flag of nationalism. The official story blames China's enemies; that line may convince many - even most - Chinese, but if the end of the story is to force 1.3 billion people back into a position of antagonism towards the outside world, when the strategy for the past 15 years has been to open up, what will have been gained?

Don’t Feed China’s Nationalism

At first glance, 's recent crackdown in looks like a familiar storyline: a dictatorship represses its people. And of course that's part of the reality—as it often is in China. But on this issue, the communist regime is not in opposition to its people. The vast majority of Chinese have little sympathy for the Tibetan cause. To the extent that we can gauge public opinion in China and among its diaspora, ordinary Chinese are, if anything, critical of the government for being too easy on the Tibetans. The real struggle here is between a nationalist majority and an ethnic and religious minority looking to secure its rights.

In these circumstances, a boycott of the Olympics would have precisely the opposite effect that is intended. The regime in Beijing would become only more defensive and stubborn. The Chinese people would rally around the flag and see the West as trying to humiliate China in its first international moment of glory. (There are many suspicions that the United States cannot abide the prospect of a rising China.) For most Chinese, the Games are about the world's giving China respect, rather than bolstering the Communist Party's legitimacy.

For leaders to boycott the Games' opening ceremonies alone is an odd idea. Is the president of the United States supposed to travel to Beijing to attend the women's water-polo finals instead? (Britain's Gordon Brown, for instance, has said he'll attend the closing, but not the opening ceremonies.) Picking who will go to which event is trying to have it both ways, voting for the boycott before you vote against it. Some want to punish China for its association with the Sudanese government, which is perpetrating atrocities in Darfur. But to boycott Beijing's Games because it buys oil from Sudan carries the notion of responsibility too far. After all, the United States has much closer ties to Saudi Arabia, a medieval monarchy that has funded Islamic terror. Should the world boycott America for this relationship?

China's attitude toward Tibet is wrong and cruel, but, alas, not that unusual. Other nations, especially developing countries, have taken tough stands against what they perceive as separatist forces. A flourishing democracy like India has often responded to such movements by imposing martial law and suspending political and civil rights. The Turks for many decades crushed all Kurdish pleas for linguistic and ethnic autonomy. The democratically elected Russian government of Boris Yeltsin responded brutally to Chechen demands. Under Yeltsin and his successor, Vladimir Putin, also elected, the Russian Army killed about 75,000 civilians in Chechnya, and leveled its capital. These actions were enthusiastically supported within Russia. It is particularly strange to see countries that launched no boycotts while Chechnya was being destroyed—and indeed welcomed Russia into the G8—now so outraged about the persecution of minorities. (In comparison, estimates are that over the past 20 years, China has jailed several hundred people in Tibet.)

On this issue, the Bush administration has so far followed a wiser course, forgoing the grandstanding taking place in Europe and on the campaign trail. It has been urging the Chinese government quietly but firmly to engage in serious discussions with the Dalai Lama. Diplomacy can be scoffed at, but every multinational business that has had success in persuading the Chinese government to change course will testify that public humiliation does not work nearly as well on the regime as private pressure.

Negotiating with the Dalai Lama is in Beijing's interest as well. It faces a restive population that lives in about 13 percent of the land area of China. Many Tibetans want independence. But the Dalai Lama has repeatedly said that he does not seek independence, only cultural autonomy. Even last week he rejected any boycott of the Olympics and urged his followers to engage in no violent protests whatsoever. If there were ever a leader of a separatist group whom one could negotiate with, he's it. And once the 72-year-old Dalai Lama passes from the scene, Beijing might have to deal with a far more unpredictable and radical Tibetan movement.

한중일의 국가민족주의라는 측면을 통해, 그리고 동북아시아의 평화, 그 '불안한 균형'이라는 아이디어를 통해 독도 문제를 다시 바라보자.

한국인들은 '국가' '국민' '민족' '영토' 등의 개념이 무궁한 역사를 바탕으로 한 것이어서 절대 불가침이고 절대로 움직일 수 없는 것이라는 생각이 확고하지만, 그런 생각을 누구나 가지게 된 것은 불과 백년이 될까 말까 한 과거의 얘기다. '민족국가'를 중심으로 한 온갖 관념이 죄다 근대의 소산이라는 점은 오천년 무궁한 역사를 나부끼기 좋아하는 한국의 남녀노소에게는 매우 불편한 역사적 사실일 것이다. 게다가 일본에 의해 수십년 동안 식민지배되엇던 또다른 역사적 사실은 한국의 '국가 민족주의'를 너무 자연스러운 것으로 만든다 (그렇지 않다면 세살 짜리 어린애가 방송에 나와서 독도 아리랑을 그렇게 목이 터져라 부를 수 잇겟는가).

나는 독도가 한국의 '영토'라고 말하는 것이 '역사적 사실'에 가깝다는 점에 동의한다. 과거의 역사적 기록도 잇고 그리고 무엇보다도 1953년 이승만이 무력으로 점령한 이후에는 그냥 한국땅이다. 그리고 '누가 뭐래도' 이 자체가 바뀔 가능성은 제로다. 국민 국가의 틀이 지속되는 한 독도는 한국의 영토로 남을 것이다. 혹시 일본이 군함을 이끌고 독도를 공격할 수도 잇다고 생각한다면 비디오 게임을 너무 많이 햇는지 의심해보라. 다만 독도를 둘러싼 온갖 잡음은 끊이지 않을 것이다. 그것을 단지 '일본 극우세력의 도발' 때문이라고만 생각한다면 너무 순진한 생각이다. 설사 그렇다고 쳐도 그런 도발을 어떻게 무력화할 것인가 하는 문제가 또 다른 차원에서 제기된다.

그런데 근대적 국가와 민족, 그리고 '영토'라는 개념 자체를 '역사적으로 특정한' 개념으로 바라본다면 얘기는 좀 달라진다. 영토라는 근대적 역사적 '상상'에서 벗어나 이렇게 다른 방식으로 '상상'해보자. 현재와 같은 확고한 영토 개념이 없던 시절, 한반도와 일본 열도 사이에 존재하던 무인도 독도. 아마 양쪽에서 배타고 고기잡이 하던 사람들이 여러 용도로 사용하는 섬이엇을 것이다 (예를 들어 방향을 확인하거나 잠시 배를 기댄다거나 등등). 재미잇는 것은 신라 시대 무슨 장군이 우산국을 점령햇다거나 조선 시대 누가 왜놈들을 몰아냇다거나 하는 얘기는 독도가 옛날 옛적부터 조선의 확고한 영토라기보다는 훨씬 불확정적이엇다는 사실을 보여주는 것이라고 볼 수도 잇을 것이다. 물론 이와 같은 역사적 기록은 영토 주장할 수 잇는 충분한 근거가 된다. 따라서 현대적 영토 주장에도 유리하다. 그렇지만 '깃발 먼저 꽂앗으니 내꺼'라는 논리는 앞에서 말한 대로 하자면 얼마나 제국주의적인, 따라서 얼마나 침략적이고 반평화적이고 또한 서구중심적인가.

국가 영토 수호하고 해외에 홍보하고, 그런 일들은 '국가'가 하게 두면 된다. 너도 나도 다 몰려가서 해야 할 일은 아니다. 오히려 우리는 이와 같은 실질적인 사건을 계기로 해서 어떻게 동아시아에 평화와 공존의 싹을 틔울 것인지 고민하고 행동해야 한다. 한국 정부와 일본 정부는 독도와 같은 역사적인 문제로 서로 서로 싸우는 척 하면서 사실은 각자의 정치적 이익을 챙긴다는 점에서 공모자다. 그런 공모를 노골적으로 하면 바보가 되고 정치적으로 실패하는 것일 뿐이다.

역사적으로 점점 과거가 되고 잇는 국가 중심적인 사고 방식을 뒤로 하고, 어떻게 평화의 싹을 틔울 수 잇을까. 현재 세력이 미약하더라도 한국과 일본의 평화 세력들은 힘을 모아서 자국의 국수주의와 군국주의에 맞서야 한다. 그 상징적인 시도로서 독도를 '동북아시아 평화의 구역'으로 선언하는 것도 생각해볼 수 잇겟다. 독도에서는 군사훈련 등 어떠한 군사적 행동도 배제하고, 동북아시아의 오랜 평화와 지속가능한 생태를 위해 남북한과 일본이 공동 연구를 수행하도록 평화적으로 개방하고, 협의에 따라 어업도 가능하도록 개방하는 것. 이와 같은 대승적 방법이 아니면 독도를 둘러싸고 무한히 지속될 분쟁과 증오를 멈출 수 잇는 방법은 없다. 그거 우리 땅인데 왜 양보하냐라고 물을 수 잇을 것이다. 그렇지만 좀더 넓은 시각에서 미래를 바라본다면 무엇이 진정한 동북아시아의 평화라는 더 큰 이익으로 가는 길인지는 그리 복잡한 셈법이 필요하지 않다. 나는 이런 얘기를 당당하게 주장할 수 잇는 정치 세력이 얼른 앞장서서 일본의 평화 세력과 연대를 꾸리기를 기대한다.

책임과 눈병

이제 군 입대가 2주일 정도 남았다.

아직은 별로 실감이 안간달까나..

뭘 어떻게 정리해야 할지..

무엇을 준비해야 할지..

다들 그렇게 이야기 한다.

군 입대 전엔 무엇을 하든 후회가 남는다고..

나는 지금 후회를 하고 있나?

흠.. 글쎄.. 그다지.. 후회하고 있지는 않다.

지금 내가 하고 있는 일에.. 나에게 주어진 기회에 감사하며, 어떻게든 더 도전하려고 노력한다.

그렇게 노력한 결과..

흠.. 나 스스로도 변했다는 것이 느껴진다.

아직 부족한 부분이 많지만.. 특히.. '정' 이라는 분야에 있어서?

뭐 그건 그렇지만.. 얻은 것도 많이 있다.

내 폴더 이름 처럼 '선택과 집중'..

요즘 들어선 나 스스로 나의 추진력에 놀랄 때가 있다.

어떻게 보면 집착에 가까울 정도로.. 그 것만 바라보는 것.

뭐.. 잠 주관도 이젠 어느정도 가능한 것 같다. 내가 원하는 때에 집중을 유지 할 수 있고,

기본적인 스케줄이 정해지면.. 그것에 따라 몸이 따라준다.

그런걸 바라볼 때, 책임이란게 얼마나 무서운지.. 다시 느끼게 된다, 이렇게 짧은 시간에 나를 이렇게 바꿔 놓다니..

뭐.. 나 스스론 그렇게 많이 성장한 것 같다.

그런데 다른 사람들은..

우리 성화들은 어떨까?..

과연 그들도 나 만큼 성장했을까?

내가 이번 수련을 하면서 가장 크게 간과했던 것은 무엇일까?

이번 일을 준비하면서, 잘 한것도 있었지만, 못한 것도 많았다.

뭐 이번 평가회 때 나오겠지만..

좋다.^^

어쩌면 나로써는 처음으로 내가 한 일에 대한 분명한 피드백이니까.

계속 옜날에 교육받았던 내용이 떠오른다.

무엇보다.. 지루하다고 생각하지 않는게 중요하겠지..

더 큰 도전이라고 인식하는 것..

무엇보다도..

근데 지금 걸린 눈병 때문에 약간 걱정이다.

빨리 낳아야 할텐데..

아니.. 빨리 날 것이다. 뭐 당연하지만..

앗!!

설마 이것 때문에 군대 연기되는거 아니겠지?

ㅡ.ㅜ... 제발.. 그런일은..

빨리 집에 가야 겠다.

요즘.. 힘들다는 단어가, 머리속에 맴돈다.

이제 단순히 내가 맡은 일 뿐만아니라, 모든 일을 바라봐야 하기에..

내가 해야 할 일을 보면..

그냥 우선 불가능 하다는 생각부터 든다.

그러고도.. 어떻게든 끌고 가는 것.

흠..

정말.. 이 일을 다하려면,

흠..

밤을 새거나.. 다름 사람에게 맡기거나..

하지만.. 둘다 맘에 안든다.

그래서 내린 결론은 이거다.

CREATivity.

창조력으로.. 하자.

창조적으로 한다는 건 이전에 못해본 방식으로 한다는 거다.

지금까지의 날 뛰어넘자,

오랜만에 나의 오랜 친구와 만났다.

거의 2년 만에 본 친구.. 한 동안은.. 나의 전부였던.^^ㅎ

파이널 판타지 10

파판 시리즈 중 내가 그나마 제대로 했던 것 중에 하나이고, 제일 아끼는 시리즈다.

파판 10-2는.. 유나가 너무 섹시해져서.. 싫다는..ㅎ

턴제도 이상해지고..ㅎ 빠른 건 좋지만.. ㅋ

암튼 다시 게임을 하니.. 옛날 생각도 새록새록나고..ㅎ

처음.. 메뉴얼 읽고나서, 결론에 대해서 미리 알고.. 너무 아쉬워 했던 기억도 난다.

암튼 오랜만에 꺼낸 게임에 나온 내 캐릭은 너무 쌔져서..ㅎ 대부분 한방이여서.. 조금 즐기다 말았다.ㅎ

나중에 군대에서 휴가 나오면, 처음부터 한바퀴 돌아야 겠다.ㅋㅋ

그리고 오랜만에 춘우와 피시방가서 했던 게임도.ㅋㅋㅋ

ㅡ.ㅜ.. 4판 중 3판을 졌지만.. 그 것도. .컴터랑 한 편 먹고.. ㅡ.ㅜ

뭐.. 바둑에서 급이 다르면.. 몇개 올려놓고 하는 거니까.ㅎㅎㅎ

정말 오.랜.만 에.. 해 보는 것 들이였다. 모두.. 추억 속에 있었던.. 그리고.. 너무나 반가웠다.^^

인류 종말 프로젝트, 난 인간에 의해 이 프로젝트라 실행되리라고는 생각하지 않았다. 그 것도 빠른 시일내에..

이 책은 그 이야기다. 우리는 믿고 있는, 알고 있는, 기대하고 있는 세상이 언제 사라질지 모른 다는 것. 정말 10년 안에.. 아톰이 날아다니던 시대에서, 코난이 나오는 시대로..(명탐정 코난 말고) 돌아갈 수 있다. 이 모든 것의 원인은 바로..

지금의 석유 중심의 경제 구조이다.

석유가 줄어들 것이라는 경고는 100년 전부터 있었다고 한다. 그리고 지금도 있다. 그래서.. 한편으론.. 이 주제가 너무 시들해 지기 도 했다. 나도.. 모자르다 모자르다 하지만.. 그래도 충분하겠지 하면서.. 별로 생각하지 않았다. 그런데 이 책에서 이야기 하는 것은 다르다.

특히 요즘 있는 석유파동과 연관해서 더 크게 다가왔다. 기름값이 2000원을 넘어가고, 길거리에 차들이 뜸해지고, 지하철과 버스가 꽉꽉 차오는 상황에서.. 이 건 쉽게 흘려 들을 수는 없는 주제이다.

결론은 이 것이다. 석유 생산이 정점이 되서, 석유 생산이 떨어지기 시작하면, 그 때부터 불행이 시작된다. 우선 석유가 줄어들면, 길에 가던 차가 멈춘다. 또한 석유를 중심으로 하는 모든 사업들이 올 스톱한다. 그러면 바로, 정말 코난의 시대로 돌아가는 것이다. 더이상 도시 중심의 생활을 이어지지 못할 것이고, 사람들이 식량을 찾아, 다시 지방으로 흩어질 것이다. 다시 말이 등장하고, 마차가 등장할지도 모른다. 우리가 빨리 대비 하지 않으면,

전문가 들은 석유 생산의 정점이 언제일지는 모르지만, 2020년을 넘지 않는다고 한다. 다시 말해.. 이제 코앞이라는 것이다. 그 전까지.. 석유중심의 산업, 바꾸지 않으면, 안된다. 특히 우리나라 처럼 석유 한방울 나지 �는 나라는..

하지만... 석유 회사들은 그 사실을 숨긴다. 또한 많은 돈을 들여, 대체 에너지를 공격한다. 가격이 떨어지지 않도록, 또는 너무 올라 사람들이 멀리 하지 않도록..

이 것이.. 인류종말 프로젝트의 전모이다.

이 걸 보면.. 이 문제는 소고기보다 1000배는 더 중요한 문제이다. 필부로 와닺지 않아서 그럴까.. 아직까지.. 이 걸 가지고 촛불 집회를 하는 걸 못봤다. 그 만큼 너무나 중요한데..

나 부터 겟지만.. 이 문제는 반드시... 집고 넘어가야 한다.

새로운 영웅

영웅이라면 모름지기, 기본적인 예의는 있어야 하는데..

자기 멋대로 지키는 영웅

처음 포스터를 봤을 때부터.. 이 모든 반전을 준비하고 있었던.. 영화

처음엔.. 딱 선글라스 끼고 있는 것 빼고는 광고를 하지 않았다.

그러다가, 다음엔, 핸콕 영화의 앞부분, 다시 말해.. 재 멋대로 하는 모습이 나왔고,

그래서.. 그 다음 내용을 대충.. 착해지겠구나만 상상했지만.. 이런식으로 전개될지는 상상도 못했다.

그래서.. 정말 식스센스 수준의 반전을 보여준 이영화.ㅋㅋ

이 영화를 통해, 감독은 무엇을 말하고 싶었을까?

후반에.. 나오는 그 이야기..

모두가 죽고 우리만 남았다.

어쩌면 우리 인간 모두는 한때, 그렇게 엄청난 힘을 가졌었지만, 사랑을 하게 되어,

그 힘이 약해진건 아닐까^^..

라고 말하고 싶은 것 같다.^^

전략적으로 광고도 잘했고, 나름 재미있었던 영화였다.
