풍력 기술을 FloDesign 회사가 개발하였다. 3개의 날개로 만든것은

너무 커서 운송하기도 힘드는데 비하여 손쉽고 큰 바람에도 적응이

잘되는 이 디자인은 MIT에서 상을받았고 미 연방정부에서 8.3 million

상금을 받았다는 주간지 BusinessWeek의 기사이다.

바람이 3개의 날개를 지날때 59%만의 바람을 흡수하는 conventional

풍차는 옛날 구형이 될 시기가 되었다.

핵발전소 사건으로 핵발전소를 건설 못하는 미국의 사정에 좋은 디자인

은 16 미터의 기둥위에 3미터 길이의 날개(blade)를 3개를 세우는 것보다

From the first flight at Kitty Hawk, it took about 50 years to engineer the switch from spinning propellers to more efficient jet engines. Now wind technology could be about to make a similar design leap, barely a decade after the commercial industry’s birth in the U.S.

Using features drawn from jet engine design, FloDesign Wind Turbine (shown above in an artist’s rendering) has developed a prototype that is three times more efficient at turning the wind into electricity than today’s towering, three-bladed models, according to CEO Stanley Kowalski III. Carefully shaped cowlings channel air into patterns that create spinning vortexes – like miniature tornadoes – as the currents exit the device. This trick accelerates the air as it pass through.

The technology could transform the commercial wind business with units that are easier to install, longer lasting, and more adaptable to a variety of environments. Today’s wind turbines can top out at 300 feet or taller, requiring a train of tractor trailers to haul tower sections and blades that are as a long as a football field. FloDesign’s new approach fits on a single rig.

Because its blades are lighter and smaller, the design starts spinning and making energy at lower wind speeds and is more tolerant of volatile wind patterns, making it a natural for windy niches where big turbines can’t fit, such as in cities, on ridgelines and beaches.

Scaled down blades also spin faster, reducing the need for the costly gear boxes that today’s windmills must use to connect slow-moving rotors to a high-speed generator kits. With fewer gears and other moving parts, the company claims it can reduce the parts count in a turbine by up to 75%, thereby boosting reliability, too.

The Wilbraham (Mass.)-based company, which has also received funding from the Energy Dept., is hunting for another $25 million to deploy full scale test rigs. Last year, it landed two start-up awards from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including cash grants of $300,000. Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers committed $6 million in venture capital in an initial funding round in 2008.

발견하였다고 발표하였다. 달의 남극지역에 롸켓을 쏘아 구멍을만들고

그곳에서 발견된 물은 25 gallon으로 달나라에 거주할수있는 가능성도

발표하였다.

일초에 1.5 mile 스피도로 달을 폭파시켜 솟아오른 것을 분석하였다.

그 물로 공기와 우주선 연로로 만들수있고 화성으로 갈수있는 정거장

역을 할수있다는 중요한 사실을 발표하였다. 1969년 미국사람이 달나라에

가서도 찾지못한 중요한 자료를 찾았다.

20014년 부터 여행객에게50억불로 달나라 여행사업 시작하려 는

Musk씨의 계획이 있는데 1985년부터 연구하는 Biosphere 2 연구실( note-1)

처럼 달에Hotel을 짓고 우주생활이 시작될 첫 step인것같다.

(CNN) -- NASA said Friday it had discovered water on the moon, opening "a new chapter" that could allow for

the development of a lunar space station.

The discovery was announced by project scientist Anthony Colaprete at a midday news conference.

"I'm here today to tell you that indeed, yes, we found water. And we didn't find just a little bit; we found a significant amount" -- about a dozen, two-gallon bucketfuls, he said, holding up several white plastic containers.

The find is based on preliminary data collected when the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, intentionally crashed October 9 into the permanently shadowed region of Cabeus crater near the moon's south pole.

After the satellite struck, a rocket flew through the debris cloud, measuring the amount of water and providing a host of other data, Colaprete said.

The project team concentrated on data from the satellite's spectrometers, which provide the best information about the presence of water, Colaprete said. A spectrometer helps identify the composition of materials by examining light they emit or absorb

Although the goal of the $79 million mission was to determine whether there is water on the moon, discoveries in other areas are expected as studies progress, Colaprete and other scientists said at the briefing at NASA's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field near San Francisco, California.

The discovery opens a new chapter in our understanding of the moon," the space agency said in a written statement shortly after the briefing began. Michael Wargo, chief lunar scientist at NASA headquarters in Washington, said the latest discovery also could unlock the mysteries of the solar system.

He listed several options as sources for the water, including solar winds, comets, giant molecular clouds or even the moon itself through some kind of internal activity. The Earth also may have a role, Wargo said.

"If the water that was formed or deposited is billions of years old, these polar cold traps could hold a key to the history and evolution of the solar system, much as an ice core sample taken on Earth reveals ancient data," NASA said in its statement.

"In addition, water and other compounds represent potential resources that could sustain future lunar exploration."

Our Last Christmas.

He threw me Christmas party. It was a few weeks before I was leaving

the town. I was young and weather was cold. When we said bye in the

cold dawn, I thought it could be forever for us.

After 20 some years, I returned and found him. We were turned to middle

aged male with wrinkle in our faces, salt and pepper on our hairs. I told

him the last cold Christmas spent together 20 some years ago. He was smiling

in bed. His wife told me he had a cancer. I saw him smiling in bed. I visited

him once a week while staying in the Seoul. I bought small white flowers on

the second visit.

I told him I was planning to move back permanently. Before I left the town,

I told him I’d be back before winter comes. So we can have a joyful Christ-

mas party. I held his hand and shook his in bed. His wife came out to see me

off. I hugged her. She cried. The December wind was cold

I couldn’t make it for the winter. In the early January, I returned to the city

and called him. His wife answered. She said he passed away a few days

after the Christmas. It choked me. I held the phone without saying a word.

I went to his apartment. We hugged and sobbed together. It was only one

christmas party together. In winter wind, we sobbed before I left her.

That time, we were young and wandering. We didn’t know what future will

hold. Still I don’t, can we?. The last Christmas party was only one I could

hold on to it whenever Christmas comes around.

nearly destroyed the cradle of civilization

Once covering more than 20,000 square kilometers, Iraq’s southern marshes were destroyed as part of Hussein’s politically motivated efforts to uproot and exterminate the region’s Shi’a inhabitants, marsh dwellers who opposed his rule, Richardson says.

Government engineering programs drained more than 80 percent of the marshes between 1991 and 1997, he says. By 2001, the remaining wetlands had decreased in size by half. By 2003, only about seven percent of the original marshlands remained.

The rapid destruction of the marshlands threatens millions of native and migratory birds, and has all but erased the Mad’an culture, a way of life that dates back 5,000 years to the Sumerians, when people first inhabited artificial islands of mud and reeds between the Tigris and Euphrates and farmed the rich fields and fished the teeming waters there.

“This area was once famous for its biodiversity and cultural richness. The marshes were the permanent habitat for millions of birds and a flyway for billions more migrating between Siberia and Africa,” Richardson’s team’s noted in an interim report released in 2003. “Sixty-six bird species may now be at risk. Other populations are thought to be in serious decline.”

Hussein did not limit his genocide to identifiably Kurdish groups; he also targeted the

predominantly Shiite Marsh Arabs of southeastern Iraq, the direct descendants of the

ancient Mesopotamians. By destroying more than 95% of the region's marshes, he

effectively depleted its food supply and destroyed the entire millennia-old culture,

reducing the number of Marsh Arabs from 250,000 to approximately 30,000. It is

unknown how much of this population drop can be attributed to direct starvation

and how much to migration, but the human cost was unquestionably high.

섬사람 33명이 사망하였다. 미국정부에서 수나미 경고 시스템을 설치하라고

$ 13 million불을 지원하였는데 그 돈으로 자동차와 TV 사는데 돈을 사용하여

지원금을 반환하라고 미국연방정부가 사모아 주지사(Togiola Tulafono)에게

요구하고있다.

Pago Pago, American Samoa (CNN) -- When an earthquake-triggered tsunami cascaded into

this tiny island in late September, the result was 34 lives lost and untold millions in property damage.

But a CNN investigation to air on tonight's "AC 360" has uncovered an array of unsettling facts that point

to a single conclusion: this natural disaster was in many ways a man-made tragedy.

Public records show that the Department of Homeland Security had awarded millions of federal dollars

in grants for disaster preparedness here, including the construction of an island-wide siren warning

system. But all the federal funding was frozen in early 2007 after DHS inspectors found that the local

American Samoan government had been diverting millions of those dollars for its own uses.

Birdsall Alailima, director of American Samoa's territorial office of Homeland Security from 2003 through

2007, now lives in southern Illinois, not far from St. Louis, Missouri. He showed CNN on a map exactly

where on the island the sirens were to have been placed. Thirty towers in all, he said, with 30 sirens that

could have been activated by the push of a single button.

"You're saying that the systems should have been in place?" CNN correspondent Drew Griffin asked him.

"Absolutely," Alailima said. "And people died as a result?" "Yes."

He's not the onl　　y one　　 who thinks so. Federal sources told CNN they believe that had the warning system

been built, the death toll would likely have been lower.

In American Samoa, however, territorial Gov. Togiola Tulafono, told CNN that he knew of no viable plan

for the siren system.

"There was a study, I believe, but never a plan for a system," the governor said. "I was trying to get verification

of what happened to that system, but I could not get the definite information."

Alailima said he was fired by the governor when the federal funding was frozen, and that the governor was

aware of the preparations.

"I'm not going to fault them for freezing the funds," Tulafono said. "These are federal funds that they have

oversight responsibility for and they saw fit to freeze the funds."

The governor told CNN he had tried to correct the problem by firing his entire homeland security staff.

But, he said, that failed to solve the problem.

"All I'm saying is we have tried to work with them and have tried to get partial releases (of the money),

and so far that hasn't happened." A federal official calls the governor's statement "nonsense." American

Samoa would have access to the frozen funds if it had agreed to pay back even some of the money it misused,

said the official. The government and the governor refused, and the tsunami siren system was stopped,

according to the official.

A spokesman for the governor's office later declined comment on the nature of the negotiations.

American Samoan government officials said they purchased another warning system -- radios that would

have triggered alarms across the island. But during the CNN interview, Tulafono conceded that the system

"was not in place" when the tsunami struck.

CNN has learned that the FBI is now conducting an investigation into exactly what did happen to the federa

l preparedness dollars sent to American Samoa. It was launched, sources tell CNN, by the Interior Department

as its Insular Affairs office has federal administrative responsibility for the island.

The FBI investigation is onl　　y the latest and most recent attempt by the federal government to try to track what

one federal official told CNN was "endemic" corruption on the island.

Here are onl　　y a few instances of the alleged corruption:

Both the current Samoan lieutenant governor and a former state senator are under federal indictment on

allegations of fraud, bribery and conspiracy. A trial is pending in Washington because there are no federal

courts on the island. Attorneys for both men have refuted the indictment in court filings and say their clients

are innocent of all the charges.

In half a dozen villages either wiped out or badly damaged by the tsunami, CNN could find no visible evidence

of local government assistance. Workers from a tuna fish processing plant were helping in one　　 village; in another,

students from an island community college were dredging rubbish out of a stream. Red Cross officials distributed

tents in other villages. Children in another village were hauling furniture on
their backs to help clear the debris.

When asked about the seeming lack of local government assistance, the governor told CNN, "Our departments

are out there working and working very hard, and to say they haven't seen
any assistance is totally false."

Since 1995, American Samoa has received nearly $2 billion in federal grants from nearly every federal agency.

On average the 65,000-population -- the size of a typical American suburb -- receives about $250 million in

federal money each year. Congressional sources tell CNN that oversight has always been a problem because

of Samoa's isolation and the expense involved in even mounting an investigation.

"They can do half a dozen investigations in Wyoming or California for the amount just one　　 investigation would

cost in Samoa," a source told CNN.

Federal sources said they don't believe any official is getting rich off the U.S. Treasury. Instead, they said,

federal funds -- including disaster-preparedness money that was to have gone to the warning system ?

were instead used to create local government jobs in an economy almost totally dependent on U.S. federal

grants.

Moreover, the source added, each federal agency may have many employees whose jobs are to allocate

federal funds, but onl　　y a relative handful whose jobs are to "manage" or account
for that money.

In an e-mail to CNN, an Interior Department spokeswoman said that in previous administrations "there were

real issues of neglect and failed oversight that must be addressed quickly,
thoroughly and responsibly."

"We will help the islands rebuild and recover," said Kendra Barkoff, "but taxpayer dollars will be invested with

strong oversight and full accountability."

서독과 동독이 통일된지 이제 20년이 되었다. 한국정부

들은 20년 뒤늦게 이제 무었을 하고 있는지….

통일협상에 독제자나 정당을 대표하는 정치인들이 자격이

있는지 없는지 이전에 실권자들이 뽑은 사람들에게 마껴

지금까지 전국민의 일을 자기 개인의 놀이game 처럼, 60년

동안 망쳐 가고있다. 국회의 양당이 멱살잡고 싸움질하는

정치인들이 통일의 임무를 받을 자격이있는 정치인이라고

생각하기 힘들다. 시민단체가 남북대화를 하려면 공산국사상

을 가진 자라고, 공산국 소련, 중국과 대화도 하면서 멱살잡기

좋아하고 능력없는 당원들이 game한 결과일 것이다.

혹시 통일을 싫어하는 중국과 일본에 통일을 의지하는지도

궁굼하다.

Researchers estimate that 136 people were killed while trying to cross the barrier during its 28-year existence.

On Saturday in a village outside Berlin, three new memorial stones were dedicated to victims of the wall.

About Elon Musk and electronic cars. In a dressing room above the

“Late Show with David Letterman” stage, the electronic-car magnate

Elon Musk sat on a sofa, eating cookies. Musk, thirty-eight, is the

chairman, C.E.O., and product architect of Tesla Motors, and he was

appearing on Letterman to show off the company’s newest design:

a sleek sedan called the Model S.

After co-founding the Internet start-ups Zip2 and PayPal, when he was

in his twenties, in 2002 Musk launched the Space Exploration

Technologies Corporation (SpaceX), with the ultimate goal of colonizing

Mars; the company recently won a $1.6-billion contract with NASA to

resupply the Space Station. In 2004 he provided

Tesla with its initial funding, in the belief that electronic vehicles, or

E.V.s, together with solar power, will help wean the world off oil.

For decades, E.V.s resembled hovercraft or mobile eggs, and their lead-

acid battery packs were costly and sickly. Last fall, Tesla began making

the only highway-capable E.V. now available: the Roadster, a $109,000

sports car that goes from zero to sixty in less than four seconds and has

a range of two hundred and forty-four miles. Powered by a lithium-ion

battery, the Roadster was designed to prove that E.V.s can not just compete

but excel. Musk plans to cut the price for each of Tesla’s succeeding models

more or less in half and seize the market from the top down.

The Roadster can be found in the garages of George Clooney, Matt Damon,

Leonardo DiCaprio, and David Letterman. Musk was born in Pretoria, South

Africa, and he attended Queen’s University in Ontario and the University of

Pennsylvania. In 2004, Musk met engineer Martin Eberhard, who proposed to

build a sports car with a lithium-ion battery. Musk agreed to underwrite the

company. It took four and a half years and $140 million. As new car sales in

America are expected to fall to ten million this year, the big automakers are

developing E.V.s of their own. Mentions Ford, Chrysler, Renault, Nissan, and

In late March, Tesla unveiled the Model S at a cocktail party at SpaceX’s

Stores for £69 (including a shirt, tie and leather shoes). For a

teenager needing to look smart, high-street retailers provide suits

at a reasonable price. But not all pupils are allowed to shop around.

Johnny, aged 16, was told to return to his private school this autumn

in a “charcoal wool two-piece with a fine blue pinstripe”. It is available

only from the school outfitters, and costs a cool £210.

His father, Edward, a writer for The Economist, spent the summer arguing

with the school about the uniform. “I don’t object to his being nicer and

more intelligent than I am,” he says. “But I draw the line at his being

more expensively dressed.”

Parents and teachers usually like uniforms: they stop rich children

from showing off, in theory inspire a proud work ethic and in practice

keep gang colours outside the gates. But state schools that ape ancient

private ones by adopting fancy uniforms have had a mixed reception.

It is not the clothes that raise hackles, but specifying their source.

In 2006, after an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT),

the government told state schools not to strike exclusive deals with

specialist suppliers or demand that pupils be dressed by named

high-street shops. But those rules are being breached. A government

survey earlier this year found that most state-school children had to

buy pricey clothes from a named supplier. One in six had to buy their

entire kit that way.

The rules do not apply to the private-sector likes of Eton, though. The

OFT looked only at state schools because it knew it could pass on

enforcement to the government. The presumption is that parents

who can afford fee-paying schools can buy a pure-wool suit as well.

Those parents, unsurprisingly, don’t see things that way. They

particularly object to schools’ tendency to change uniforms on

a whim, which means that costs cannot be cut by buying second-

hand or dressing younger siblings in hand-me-downs.

But more dangerous for schools than some parents’ disaffection is the

broader impression of exclusivity a posh uniform creates. Most are

educational charities, and they are already under fire from the charities

regulator for offering little benefit to the masses.

also editorial comments giving the impression that a monopoly in the sale

of school uniforms was badly affecting consumers and that the market

should be liberalised.

The feature gave the impression that uniforms sold by Pace were very

expensive because the company enjoyed a monoply. This was not the

case and the company's prices were low when compared to those of

other companies.

PBS's behaviour was illegal and abusive and in breach of the Press Act.

The company's reputation had been badly affected by the feature and it\

was holding the station responsible for damages.

Following The Trail of Toxic E-Waste

60 Minutes is going to take you to one of the most toxic places on Earth -- a place

that government officials and gangsters don't want you to see. It's a town in China

where you can't breathe the air or drink the water, a town where the blood of the

children is laced with lead. It's worth risking a visit because, as correspondent Scott

Pelley first reported last November, much of the poison is coming out of the homes,

schools and offices of America.

This is a story about recycling - about how your best intentions to be green can be

channeled into an underground sewer that flows from the United States and into the

wasteland

That wasteland is piled with the burning remains of some of the most expensive,

sophisticated stuff that consumers crave. And 60 Minutes and correspondent

Scott Pelley discovered that the gangs who run this place wanted to keep it a secret.

What are they hiding? The answer lies in the first law of the digital age: newer

is better. In with the next thing, and out with the old TV, phone or computer. All

of this becomes obsolete, electronic garbage called "e-waste."

Computers may seem like sleek, high-tech marvels. But what?s inside them?
"Lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium, polyvinyl chlorides. All of these materials

have known toxicological effects that range from brain damage to kidney disease

to mutations, cancers," Allen Hershkowitz, a senior scientist and authority on

waste management at the Natural Resources Defense Council, explained.

"The problem with e-waste is that it is the fastest-growing component of the

municipal waste stream worldwide," he said. Asked what he meant by "fastest-

growing," Hershkowitz said. "Well, we throw out about 130,000 computers

every day in the United States." And he said over 100 million cell phones are

thrown out annually.

At a recycling event in Denver, 60 Minutes found cars bumper-to-bumper for

blocks, in a line that lasted for hours. They were there to drop off their computers,

PDAs, TVs and other electronic waste.

Asked what he thought happens once his e-waste goes into recycling, one man

told Pelley, "Well my assumption is they break it apart and take all the heavy

metals and out and then try to recycle some of the stuff that's bad."

Most folks in line were hoping to do the right thing, expecting that their waste

would be recycled in state-of-the-art facilities that exist here in America.

But really, there's no way for them to know where all of this is going. The

recycling industry is exploding and, as it turns out, some so-called recyclers

are shipping the waste overseas, where it's broken down for the precious metals

inside.

Executive Recycling, of Englewood, Colo., which ran the Denver event, promised

the public on its Web site: "Your e-waste is recycled properly, right here in the U.S.

not simply dumped on somebody else."

That policy helped Brandon Richter, the CEO of Executive Recycling, win a

contract with the city of Denver and expand operations into three western states.

Asked what the problem is with shipping this waste overseas, Richter told Pelley,

"Well, you know, they've got low-income labor over there. So obviously they don't

have all of the right materials, the safety equipment to handle some of this material."

Executive does recycling in-house, but 60 Minutes was curious about shipping

containers that were leaving its Colorado yard. 60 Minutes found one container

filled with monitors. They're especially hazardous because each picture tube, called

a cathode ray tube or CRT, contains several pounds of lead. It's against U.S. law to

ship them overseas without special permission. 60 Minutes took down the container's

number and followed it to Tacoma, Wash., where it was loaded on a ship.

When the container left Tacoma, 60 Minutes followed it for 7,459 miles to

Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong. It turns out the container that started in Denver

was just one of thousands of containers on an underground, often illegal smuggl-

ing route, taking America's electronic trash to the Far East.

Our guide to that route was Jim Puckett, founder of the Basel Action Network,

a watch-dog group named for the treaty that is supposed to stop rich countries

from dumping toxic waste on poor ones. Puckett runs a program to certify ethical

recyclers. And he showed 60 Minutes what's piling up in Hong Kong.

"It's literally acres of computer monitors," Pelley commented. "Is it legal to import

all of these computer monitors into Hong Kong?" "No way. It is absolutely illegal,

both from the standpoint of Hong Kong law but also U.S. law and Chinese law. But

it's happening," Puckett said.

60 Minutes followed the trail to a place Puckett discovered in southern China –

a sort of Chernobyl of electronic waste - the town of Guiyu. But we weren't

there very long before we were picked up by the cops and taken to City Hall.

We told the mayor we wanted to see recycling. So he personally drove us to

a shop.

"Let me explain what's happening here," Pelley remarked while in Guiyu.

"We were brought into the mayor's office. The mayor told us that we're

essentially not welcome here, but he would show us one place where computers

are being dismantled and this is that place. A pretty tidy shop. The mayor told us

that we would be welcome to see the rest of the town, but that the town wouldn't

be prepared for our visit for another year.

"So we were allowed to shoot at that location for about five minutes,? Pelley

where I suspect we'll be given another cup of tea and sent on our way out of

town with a police escort no doubt." And we were. But the next day, in a

different car and on a different road, we got in. "This is really the dirty little

secret of the electronic age," Jim Puckett said.

Greenpeace has been filming around Guiyu and caught the recycling work.

Women were heating circuit boards over a coal fire, pulling out chips and

pouring off the lead solder. Men were using what is literally a medieval acid

recipe to extract gold. Pollution has ruined the town. Drinking water is trucked

in. Scientists have studied the area and discovered that Guiyu has the highest

levels of cancer-causing dioxins in the world. They found pregnancies are six

times more likely to end in miscarriage, and that seven out of ten kids have too

much lead in their blood.

WASHINGTON — An average family health insurance policy now costs more

than some compact cars, and four in 10 companies will likely pass more of that

expense on to workers, according to a closely watched survey of businesses

released Tuesday.

The average cost of a family policy offered by employers was $13,375 this year,

up 5% from 2008, the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research &

Educational Trust survey found. By comparison, wages rose 3% over that period,

the study said.

Indeed, the leader of the insurance lobby has sent lawmakers a message:

Be careful what you change, because "77 percent of Americans are satisfied

with their existing health insurance coverage."

Karen Ignagni, president of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP),

invoked the statistic to argue against the creation of a government-run

insurance option. But the polls are not that simple, and her assertion

reveals how the industry's effort to defend its turf has led it to cherry-pick

the facts.

By 72 to 20 percent, Americans favor the creation of a public plan, the

June survey by the New York Times and CBS News found. People also

said that they thought government would do a better job than private

insurers of holding down health-care costs and providing coverage.

In addition, data from a Kaiser Family Foundation poll last year,

compiled at the request of The Washington Post, suggest that the

people who like their health plans the most are the people who use

them the least.

Those who described their health as "excellent" -- people who presumably

had relatively little experience pursuing medical care or submitting claims

n were almost twice as likely as those in good, fair or poor health to rate

n their private health insurance as excellent.

The level of satisfaction expressed with private insurance was essentially

the same as that with Medicare, the government program for the elderly

and disabled.

The industry's stance against a public health plan revives shades of 1994,

when it was instrumental in blocking President Bill Clinton's health-care

proposals.

"A government-run plan would turn back the clock on efforts to improve

the quality and safety of patient care," AHIP has argued. Such a plan "will

ultimately limit choices and access," the big insurer WellPoint contends.

But systemic problems have persisted for 15 years, and it is not clear how

much private insurers have done, or can do, to solve them.

"Insurers promise choice, they promise innovation, they promise a lot of

things, but I think they've delivered very little," said Alan Sager, professor

of health policy and management at Boston University. "I think net they give

us very bad value for the 10 to 20 percent share of the health dollar they skim

off the top." Instead of choice, they offer "the illusion of choice," he said.

영화 review: 자유경제의 문제점

자유경제발전에 도움되지않는 규제를 없엔 미국공화당때문에 돈에

중독된CEO들이 큰 돈을 착복하여 경제를 망쳤다고 Moore씨는 주장

한다.

자본주의는(capitalism) 민주주의보다 더 중요하다는Wall Street신문의

주장을 공격하고 또Greenspan씨의 말처럼 인간의 끝없는 욕심을 고치지

Let's start with his conclusion: "Capitalism is an evil, and you cannot regulate evil." That's enough to give anyone pause, especially in light of the sorry history of other political and economic systems. He has a less controversial case when he attacks those who portray the connection between capitalism and democracy as sibling-close, united under the umbrella of the Constitution

One of Moore's stunts is a trip to the Capitol rotunda to examine the document. After a Wall Street Journal editor tells Moore that "Capitalism is more important than democracy," the filmmaker quotes the founding fathers on the dangers to democracy of an unregulated market.

He also has Jesus on the record denouncing material wealth. As usual, Moore scores most points with satire. He re-dubs an old Bible movie so that Jesus refuses to heal a cripple because of a "pre-existing condition."

I wouldn't use the term "documentary" to describe this film: It's a barbed comic monologue with big jolts of pathos. Moore uses a daddy-knows-best tone borrowed from '50s documentaries — This, kiddies, is how our society really works. Some people hate that condescending tone, but I like it. I think it's apt: Moore is a kind of Mister Rogers with 200 extra pounds and a Che Guevara t-shirt instead of a cardigan.

As for content, Moore ranges far and wide, although rarely very deep. He begins with foreclosures on poor people and gives a quick sketch of predatory lending. He draws comparisons between the fall of the Roman Empire and our American Century. He makes the case that Ronald Reagan and his corporate allies began dismantling regulations in a way that amounted to a coup d'etat.

It got worse, says Moore, under George W. Bush, who took a chainsaw to Wall Street regulations. That's not my metaphor — or Moore's. Bush officials and lobbyists posed with a chainsaw for a magazine cover, setting the stage for what Moore calls the greatest wave of white-collar crime in American history.
